here are some attempts at a definition:

complexity:  stuff that even really smart people can't figure out
a tangled mess of inelegant crap
phenomena for which the model takes up more space, time, and energy than the phenomena itself
stuff that can't be modeled
marriage
the quality inherent in a supposedly closed system that makes it neither closed nor a system
oodles of seemingly random noodles of googles
a mythical quality like "phlogiston" and "ether" ascribed to stuff we're stumped by
