Louisa May Alcott House
The Orchard House
Concord, Massachusetts
Louisa May Alcott lived in Orchard House when she wrote Little Women. She wrote the book between May and July 1868. She also wrote Little Men and Jo's Boys and many other books.
Louisa had three sisters, just like in Little Women. One was named Elizabeth and she died when she was young because she had scarlet fever and never really got better. Louisa had two other sisters. They were Anna and May. Anna in the story was Meg and May was Amy. May was an artist just like Amy. She drew on the walls of her room and made lots of artistic things around the house. The letters in May's name were scrambled to spell Amy . My dad says that's called an anagram. Meg's wedding in the book was just like Anna's real wedding to John Pratt. And Anna really did have twins, just like Meg. But, Anna had two boys (Frederick and John) and Meg had a boy and a girl (Demi and Daisy).
The color picture of the four sisters is on the cover of my book and inside too. It was painted by Jessie Wilcox Smith. The girls are, Amy in the blue dress, Meg in the red dress, Jo in the brown dress and Beth in the flowered dress. Beth is sitting down. This is a great book. It is one of my favorites. My other favorite books are by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
