They were living in Frelinghuysen Township. The Luse farm was valued at $8,400, their personal estate was valued at $1,00 (1860 United States Federal Census, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 207). In 1870, the Luses were still residents of Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Isaac was listed as a farmer, with real estate valued at $5,400. His personal estate was worth $1,100. Henry Freeman was living in the household with Isaac and Emeline. He was an 80 year old, retired farmer and was probably Emeline's father (1870 United States Federal Census, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 21). Isaac and Emeline are buried in Johnsonburg Christian Cemetery, Johnsonburg, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey. The stones were field checked in June 1997. Both siblings had lost their spouses to death and had combined their families into one family unit. Rette Lundy was listed as the head of household. Her occupation was given as farmer. She owned the farm free and clear of any mortgages. Her name on the census was very difficult to make-out, Rette is the best approximation (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 153, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 3A). He did not own any land (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 153, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 3A). At his death in 1950, he was buried with Stella in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Jacksonburg, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their stones were field checked 3 July 1999. 459. (ii.) LYDIA ANN LUSE5, was born 8 August 1842, probably in Warren County, New Jersey and died 2 May 1927. The 1860 Census lists her as a resident of her parent's household (United States Federal Census, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 207). The 1870 census simply noted that Lydia was "at home" (United States Federal Census, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 21). She never married. Lydia was an informant for Kern's geneaological study of the Kern, Lanterman, Crisman and Read families (Kern 1938). She is buried in Johnsonburg Christian Cemetery, Johnsonburg, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey. She shares a monument with her parents, an obelisk which is inscribed on two sides. One side is devoted to Lydia:

Lydia Luse
Born August 18 1842
Died May 2 1927

460. (iii.) ELIZABETH E. LUSE5, was born 1846, probably in Warren County, New Jersey and died 1937. The 1860 Census lists her as a resident of her parent's household , it also indicates that she attended school that year (United States Federal Census, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 207). As for her sister Lydia, the 1870 census noted that Elizabeth was "at home" (1870 United States Federal Census, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 21). Elizabeth married circa 1877, Joseph H. Westbrook, the son of Kelly and Emily J. Westbrook (1850, United States Census, Frelinhuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey; 1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 131, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 2A; Johnsonburg Christian Cemetery). Joseph was born in 1846 and died In 1924 (Johnsonburg Christian Church Cemetery). His father was a farmer in Frelinghuysen Township. The 1860 Census lists Joseph as a resident of his parent's household, it also indicates that he attended school that year (1860 United States Federal Census, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 183). It is probable that Elizabeth and Joseph attended the same district school and that at the time of their marriage they had known each other all their lives. Joseph's older brother, John W. Westbrook, married Elizabeth's cousin, Phebe M. Luse, the daughter of Mary Ann Kerr and Aaron Luse (Armstrong 1979:349; Johnsonburg Christian Church Cemetery). Elizabeth and Phebe were double cousins. Their grandmothers, Phebe Read Kerr3 (Phebe M. Luse) and Elizabeth Read Luse3 (Elizabeth Luse), were sisters. Phebe Luse and Elizabeth Luse were second cousins through the Reads. Through the Luses they were first cousins once removed. Phebe's grandfather was David Luse, the older brother of Aaron Luse and hence Elizabeth's uncle (Armstrong 1979:346). Elizabeth (Luse) and Joseph Westbrook lived on the Hpoe Road in 1910. Joseph was a gardener who worked for private families in the area. The Westbrook's owned their home, free and clear of any mortgages. According to the 1910 census, Joseph was out of work for 25 weeks in 1909. By 1930, Elizabeth was a widow. She was 83 years old and lived alone in a house on the Hope/Blairstown Road in Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Elizabeth owned her home, but she did not own a radio. The home was valued at $700 (1930 United States Federal Census Enumeration District 21-11, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey Sheet 3B, 15 April 1930). Joseph and Elizabeth are buried in Johnsonburg Christian Cemetery, Johnsonburg, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their stones were field checked in June 1999. There is one large stone inscribed Westbrook, with two smaller stones, one for each spouse:

Henry was not listed as a member of his parent's household on the 1870 census (1870 United States Federal Census, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 21). He may be the Henry Luse who married Bethena Ann Howell, on 3 February 1873. She was the daughter of Philip S. Howell and Margaret Vought. Bethena was born 18 November 1848 and died in Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey in 1930 (Howell and Phethean 2000:51; Vought-Howell 1974). Her sister, Elizabeth Howell, married Henry's first cousin, once removed, Ira K. Read4 (Richard Read3, Isaac, Sr.2, Joseph1) (Vought-Howell 1974). Henry and Bethena are buried in Union Cemetery, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their stones were field checked on 26 November 2001. The plot is marked with a large stone labeled "HOWELL LUSE," with smaller stones for individual graves. Bethena is buried under "B. Anna Howell Luse." They are buried with two of Bethena's siblings, Margaret and Ira Van Clive Howell.

In 1870, he was residing with his parents. His occupation was listed as "works on a farm." Even though he was 14 years old in 1870, Joseph did not attend school that year (1870 United States Federal Census, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 21).
