PROBATE RECORDS OF RICHARD READ, Sr.

The probate records of Richard Read, Sr. are housed in the office of the Surrogate Court Judge of Warren County, New Jersey, which is located in the county court house in Belvidere New Jersey. The transcripts presented below use the original spelling and punctuation found in the documents. The copies of the documents I consulted are not the original documents, but are copies made by the clerk of the Surrogate Court in the 1830s and placed in the County's will and inventory books.

In the matter of the application of Samuel H Read administrator of Richard Read Deceased for Order to limit Creditors} Final Rule to Bar Creditors

Order to Limit Creditors Surrogates Orders Book 1, page 263

Upon the application of Samuel H. Read administrator of the estate of Richard Read deceased.

I Wm L. Hoagland, Surrogate of the County of Warren, on this twenty fifth day of April A.D. 1867 order and direct the administrator to give public notice to the creditors of the estate of Said deceased to bring in their debts, demands and claims against the Same under oath or affirmation, within nine months from this time, by setting up a copy of this order within twenty days after the date hereof in five of the most public places in Said County for the Space of two months, And also by advertising the Same in the Warren Journal a newspaper of this State for a like space of time; and if any creditor Shall neglect to bring in his or her debt demand or claim, within the time So limited after public notice given aforesaid which creditor Shall be forever barred of his or her action therefor against such administrator, Given under my hand the date above Wm L. Hoagland, Surrogate

In the Matter of the account of Samuel H Read Administrator of Richard Read Deceased} Final Settlement

The Surrogate having audited as stated the account of Samuel H. Read administrator of Richard Read deceased, and placed the same on the [illegible] of his office twenty days previous to this time and proof being now made that notice of his intent to settle the account at the time has been given according to law, and being now reported for settlement and exceptions thereto the said account is allowed as reported. By the Court.
