JOSEPH READ AND SARAH SUTTON'S FAMILY PAGE

1. JOSEPH READ I1 was born in either June or July 1733 and died 18 April 1792, in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey. In 1761, he married
2. SARAH SUTTON1, daughter of James Sutton and Hannah Freeman of Hackettstown, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey. She was born 20 February 1742/43, possibly in Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey, and died 31 August 1792, in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey. They are buried in Union Brick Cemetery, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey.

Joseph and Sarah had 11 children who were born between 1762 and 1786. They had at least 77 grandchildren who were born between 1783 and circa 1830.

3. (i.) ISAAC R. READ, Sr.2, was born 30 December 1762 in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 1 March 1838 in Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey. He married Mary Shackleton. They are buried in Union Brick burial ground, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey (Kern 1938; Union Brick Cemetery).

4. (ii.) JAMES READ2, was born 1765 in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died before 20 October 1794 in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey. He married Mehitable Coleman (Kern 1938).

5. (iii.) HANNAH READ2, was born 3 February 1767 in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 9 June 1839 near Burdette, Schuyler County, New York. She married first, Benjamin Ogden and second, after Benjamin's death in 1794, Daniel Vaughn. Benjamin Ogden and Daniel Vaughan are buried in Union Brick burial ground, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Hannah is buried in Union Cemetery in Burdette, New York (Armstrong 1979; Kern 1938).

6. (iv.) JOHN READ2, was born 16 February 1769 in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 20 April 1814, location unknown. He married Elizabeth Ogden. They are buried in Union Brick Cemetery, Blairstown Towwnship, Warren County, New Jersey (Armstrong 1979; Kern 1938; Union Brick Cemetery).

7. (v.) PHEBE READ2, was born 8 August 1771 in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 1814 in Ohio. She married Andrew Kirkpatrick in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey (Armstrong 1979; Kern 1938).

8. (vi.) AZUBA MARY READ2, was born 12 September 1773 in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 20 January 1797 in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey. She married Joseph Newman. Joseph is buried in Union Cemetery in Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey (Armstrong 1979; Kern 1938).

9. (vii.) JOSEPH READ II2, was born 10 January 1777 in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 11 November 1806 in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey. He married Mary Kirkpatrick. They are buried in Union Brick Cemetery, Blairstown Towwnship, Warren County, New Jersey (Armstrong 1979; Kern 1938; Union Brick Cemetery).

10. (viii.) SARAH READ2, was born 10 April 1779 in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died before June 1862, possible in New York State. She married Ephraim Manning on 6 February 1798 in Sussex County, New Jersey (Armstrong 1979; Kern 1938; Sussex County, New Jersey Marriage Records, hereinafter SCMR).

11. (ix.) DAVID READ2, was born 12 August 1781 in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 25 April 1831 in Warren County, New Jersey. He married Ann Middlesworth, on 3 November 1804 in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey. They are buried in Union Brick Cemetery, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey (Kern 1938; SCMR; Union Brick burial ground).

12. (x.) SAMUEL READ2, was born 16 August 1783 in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 20 February 1853 in Warren County, New Jersey. He married Mariah Freese, on 1 December 1803 in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey. They are buried in Union Brick Cemetery, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey (Kern 1938; SCMR; Union Brick Cemetery; Warrell and Freese 1967).

13. (xi.) AARON READ2, was born 24 February 1786 in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 19 January 1861 in Warren County, New Jersey. He married first, on 28 March 1807, Margaret Fortune, in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey. She died between 1810 and 1813. Aaron married second, on 7 October 1813, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Cooke, in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey. Aaron and Margaret (Cooke) Read are buried in Union Brick burial ground, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey (Kern 1938; Newman c. 1934; SCMR; Union Brick Cemetery).
