JOHN R. KONKLE and EMILY M. LUSE4
220. JOHN R. KONKLE4 (Mary Read3, John Read2, Joseph Read1), and his twin, Jane, were born 1 May 1836 in Warren County, New Jersey. John died 13 February 1903. John is listed as a male child residing in the household of John B. Konkle on the 1840 census (1840 United States Federal Census, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 378). He also appears as a resident of John and Mary Konkle's household in 1850. He was the youngest child in the household and was the only chld still attending school (1850 United States Federal Census Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 494B, 9 August 1850).
John married in 1859 or 1860, his second cousin (once removed) (510) EMILY M. LUSE5 (Mary Ann Kerr4, Phebe Read3, Issac Read, Sr.2, Joseph Read1). Emily was the daughter of Aaron Luse and (146) Mary Ann Kerr4. She was born 13 June 1837 probably in Warren County, New Jersey and died 7 January 1916. Emily's sister, (512) Achsah Ann Luse5, married John's nephew, (537) Andrew Hankinson Konkle5. The 1860 census indicates that the couple were married within the census year, which extended from 1 July 1859 to 30 June 1860. John was a farmer, but the couple did not have a real estaet value associated with their census entry. They were probably renting their farm. They did have a personal estate which was valued at $500. John and Emily lived in dwelling 504. John's older brother Isaac R. Konkle lived in dwelling 502 (1860 United States Federal Census, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 561A, 17 July 1860, post office Hardwick).

In 1880, John and Emily resided in Newton, Sussex County, New Jersey. John was employed as a carpenter. The couples's two children—Olive and Aaron—also lived in the household. Aaron was in school, but 18 year old Olive was an milliner's apprentice. Emily's sister Achsah Luse Konkle, who was married to John's nephew Andrew H. Konkle, was listed adjacent to John and Emily on the census (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 182, Newton Village, Sussex County, New Jersey, page 117D, 3 June 1880).

Olive Konkle married Jacob L. Snook in about 1887. They eventually moved to Chatham in Morris County, New Jersey. After John Konkle died in 1903, Emily moved to Chatham and lived with her daughter. The Snooks ran a boarding house in Chatham. Jacob and Olive did not have living children in 1910. According to the census, they had had one child who was no longer living (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 4, Chatham Borough, Morris County, New Jersey, sheet 6A, 20 April 1910). Emily died in January of 1916. She and John are buried in Johnsonburg Christian Cemetery, Johnsonburg, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their single one sided stone was field checked in June 1997. It is inscribed as follows:

1022. (i.) OLIVE FRANCES KONKLE5/6, was born 30 June 1861 in Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey (LDS Batch #C509791) and died by 1930. In 1880, she lived with her parents in Newton, Sussex County, New Jersey. She was apprenticed to a milliner at the time of the census (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 182, Newton Village, Sussex County, New Jersey, page 117D, 3 June 1880). Olive married circa 1887, Jacob L. Snook. He was born circa 1855 in New Jersey. In 1910, Jacob and Olive lived on East Hill Avenue in Chatham, Morris County, New Jersey. The couple owned the house, but there was a mortgage on it. Olive's widowed mother, Emily Luse Konkle lived with the couple. Jacob and Olibe ran a boarding house. Their boarders in 1910 included Edard and Isabel Lloyd and their four year old son Russell. Edward was a salesman. Robert Rank, another salesman, and his wife Agnes, also boarded with the couple. Finally there was Charles Marley, who was a real estate agent. Marley was a widower and was raising his ten year old daughter. Jacob and Olive did not have any living chlidren in 1910. According to the census they had had one child, but that child was deceased by 1910 (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 4, Chatham Borough, Morris County, New Jersey, sheet 6A, 20 April 1910). Olive died before 1930. Jacob marrried a woman by the name of Lydia as his second wife. She was 18 or 19 years younger than Jacob. Lydia's parents were immigrants from Germany. The couple lived in Chatham at 15 Charles Place. Jacob's sister Kate LeFort lived with the couple. Jacob was retired. He still owned his home, which was valued at $25,000. He also owned a radio (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 14-4, Chatham Borough, Morris County, New Jersey, sheet 11B, 18 April 1930). Child of Olive Konkle and Jacob Snook:
3016. (i.) CHILD SNOOK6/7, was born between 1887 and 1910 and died by 1910. The 1910 census indicates that Jacob and Olive Snook had had one child before 1910, but that child was dead by 1910 (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 4, Chatham Borough, Morris County, New Jersey, sheet 6A, 20 April 1910).
2481. (ii.) AARON P. KONKLE5/6, was born circa 1867 in New Jersey and died unknown. In 1880, he lived with his parents in Newton, Sussex County, New Jersey and attended school (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 182, Newton Village, Sussex County, New Jersey, page 117D, 3 June 1880). According to the 1910 census, he was still living when the census was enumerated (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 4, Chatham Borough, Morris County, New Jersey, sheet 6A, 20 April 1910).
