MARGARET ANN READ HAVENS ANGLE4
227. MARGARET ANN READ4 (Isaac Read, III3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 11 April 1829 in Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey and died before 8 January 1906, possibly in Illinois. She is not listed as a survivor in the obituary of her sister, Malinda Read Titman, who died 8 January 1906 (Kern 1938; Lorenz n.d.; Obituary of Malinda Titman). Margaret married first, by 1854, Daniel Havens, the son of William Havens and Sarah Nutley. Daniel was born circa 1831 in New Jersey and died between 1857 and 1860. In 1850, he lived with his parents on their farm in Hardwick Township (1850 United States Federal Census, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 498A, 17 August 1880). Daniel and Margaret were married on 28 February 1857, in Stillwater Township, Sussex County (Sussex County Marriage Records Book AF, page 420). The rest of the Havens family had left New Jersey for the state of Illinois in about 1854. The move included Daniel's parents and several of his sibilings. His brothers Henry, Jonathan, James, and George are known to have settled in Illinois (Anon 1885). It is not known if Daniel went to Illinois and then returned to New Jersey to marry Margaret, but the couple was in Illinois by 15 December 1857 when their daughter Catherine Orilla Havens was born.
The Havens family initially settled in Prairie Township, McDonough County, their post office was in Bushnell, Illinois. The 1860 census places William and Sarah Havens on a farm in Prairie Township in dwelling 522. Three of their sons—Jonathan, James and George—lived with them. Margaret Read Havens was a widow by 1860. She lived in dwelling 526 with her daughter Catherine. According to the census she owned land valued at $1,000 and a personal estate valued at $50. Margaret was not employed. However, she rented part of the farm to the family of Henry Fidley and his family. The Fridley family included Henry (age 25) his wife Sarah (age 22), their two children—Hester (age 2) and Charles (age 8 months)—and Henry's 23 year old brother Jesse. According to the census, while Henry and Jesse both had personal estates of some value, they had no real estate (1860 United States Federal Census, Prairie City Township, McDonough County, Illinois, page 439, 13 June 1860).
Margaret was married to Henry Angle by 1867 when she signed a deed partitioning her late father's property as Margaret A. Angle (Warren County Land Records, Book 68, page 265). Henry Angle was born circa 1840 in New Jersey. In 1870, Henry and Margaret lived with Margaret's daughter in Bushnell Township, McDonough Township. They owned a farm valued at $3,500 and a personal estate valued at $790 (1870 United States Federal Census, Bushnell Township, McDonough County, Illinois, page 375, 2 August 1870). The couple's son Ellsworth was born in Bushnell township in 1874. The 1880 census places the Henry, Margaret and Ellsworth on a farm in Busnell Township, McDonough County, Illinois (1880 United States Federal Census, Bushnell Township, McDonough County, Illinois, page 335A).
