READ FAMILY CONNECTIONS
ARTHUR G. READ5
2301. ARTHUR G. READ5 (Jonah Read4, Richard Read3, Isaac Read, Sr.2, Joseph Read1), was born circa 1873 in Pennsylvania, possibly in Hanover Township, Luzerne County and died after 1930. In about 1874, he and his family settled in Jackson Township, Vinton County, Ohio. In 1880, Arthur was living with his parents on their farm in Jackson Township (1870 United States Federal Census, Hanover Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, page 521, 4 August 1870; 1880 United States Federal Census, Jackson Township, Vinton County, Ohio, page 82B; Kern 1938; Newberry c1934). By 1900, he was out on his own, but in 1910 he was living with his sister Grace, her family and his father in Syracuse Township, Hamilton County, Kansas. Arthur was still single in 1910. He worked as a well driller (1910 United States Federal Census, Syracuse Township, Hamilton County, Kansas, sheet 6A). In 1920, Arthur was living in Irondale Township, Adams County, Colorado. He and his father Jonah Read lived on a farm which belonged to Dominic and Louiza Telis. Arthur worked as laborer. It is possible that he was working for the Telis family (1920 United States Federal Census, Irondale Township, Precinct 11, Adams County, Colorado, enumeration district 8, sheet 1B, 2 January 1920). Arthur must have married his first wife shortly after the 1920 census was taken. Their son Ralph was born late in 1920 or early in 1921. Who Arthur's first wife was is unknown. She died before 1923 and Arthur remarried in 1923. His second wife was Ada Bomar. They were married in Denver, Colorado on 28 November 1923 (Colorado Marriage Report Record No. 97046). Ada was born circa 1885 in Arkansas. In 1920, she lived the town of McRae in White County, Arkansas. Ada was the live-in cook for the family of Jed and Norma Lyon. Jed Lyon was a farmer (1920 United States Federal Census, McRae Township, White County, Arkansas, enumeration district 166, shett 5B). She may be the Ada Read who appears in the Social Security death index. This Ada Read was born 10 September 1885 and died April 1972 in the vicinity of Denver, Colorado (possibly in Aurora). Arthur and Ada bought a farm in Irondale Township and were living there in 1930 when the census was taken. Arthur was a mechanic and owned his own shop (1930 United States Federal Census, Irondale Township, Precinct 25, Adams County, Colorado, enumeration district 1-30, sheet 2A, 28 March 1930).
