CATHERINE AMANDA "KATE" READ4, (Isaac Read, III 3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 17 July 1841 in Warren County, New Jersey and died 10 April 1916 in Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey. She married circa 1863, Marshall Beck6 (Jacob J. Beck, Sr.5, Jacob Beck4, Johann "Jacob" Beck3, Hans Jėrg Beck2, Ulrich Beck1). Marshall was the son of Jacob J. Beck and Elizabeth Lake. Jacob J. Beck's sister, Barbara Beck, was married to Kate's eldest brother, John M. Read. Marshall was born 1 May 1840 and died 29 May 1919. Marshall's uncles John L. Lake and Isaac G. Lake were married to Kate's second cousins, (142) Mary C. Raub4 and (145) Margaret Hannah Raub4 respectively (the Raubs were sisters). Marshall's aunt, Rachel Lake, was married to the brother of the Raub sisters, (143) Ira K. Raub4. The Raubs were the children of (20) Mary Read Raub3, a daughter of (3) Isaac Read Sr.2. Marshall appears on the 1860 census as a resident of his father's household. Jacob J. Beck owned a farm in Knowlton Township. Marshall worked as a laborer. He was 19 years old, but he was still attending school (1860 United States Census, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, pages 508, 26 June 1860). Marshall and Kate appear on the 1870 and 1880 United States Federal Census for Warren County, New Jersey as residents of Knowlton Township, Post Office Columbia. Marshall's occupation is given as farmer. In 1870, they owned real estate valued at $5,000 and a personal estate valued at $800. Their near neighbors were John and Almeda Beck. John Beck was Marshall's brother. Marshall and Kate lived in dwelling 6 and were family 6; John and Almeda lived in dwelling 8 and were family 8 (1870 United States Census, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, pages 22, 9 June 1870; 1880 United States Census, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 31). In 1910, Marshall and Kate lived alone on their farm in Marshall and Kate are buried in Knowlton Township, near Hainesburg. They owned their farm free and clear of mortgages (1910 United States Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 9A, 6 May 1910). Catherine died in 1916, Marshall in 1919. They are buried in Hainesburg Cemetery, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey.

586. (i.) WILLIAM S. "WILLIE" BECK5, was born 21 August 1867 in Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey (Hainesburg Cemetery; LDS Batch #C509861) and died 6 March 1871 (Hainesburg Cemetery). Willie appears on the 1870 census as a resident of his parent's household in Knowton Township, Warren County, New Jersey (1870 United States Census, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 22, 9 June 1870). He died less than a year after the census was taken and was buried in Hainesburg Cemetery, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey.

587. (ii.) FRANK BECK5, was born circa 1872 in New Jersey and died unknown. He was a resident of his parent's household in 1880 (1880 United States Census, Enumeration District 201, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 458C). He married circa 1898, Amanda Walters. She was born circa 1873. In 1910, the Becks lived on a farm in Knowlton Township. Frank was a farmer and also worked for the county. They owned their farm free and clear of mortgages. According to the census, the couple had been married 11 years and were the parents of three children, one of whom had died before 1910. Only two of their children were living, Gladys and Kenneth, both were under th age of three. Frank Beck was also the census taker in Knowlton Township in 1910 (1910 United States Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 10B, 7 May 1910). At the time of the 1920 census Frank and Amanda still lived in Knowlton Township, on Old Stage Route Number 1. Frank was a retail merchant. Both of the surviving Beck children still lived at home (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 161, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 21B, 5&6 January 1920). By 1930, only one of the Beck children (Kenneth) was still living at home with Frank and Amanda. Frank was still a retail merchant. He and Amanda owned their home, which was valued at $3,000. The house was located in the village of Hainesburg in Knowlton Township. The Becks owned a radio (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 21-13, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 9A, 21 April 1930). Frank and Amanda were surrounded by family in 1930. They lived in dwelling 244 and were the 257th family visited by the census taker. Frank's first cousin once removed, Jacob B. Beck and his wife Maggie lived in dwelling 248 and were family 261. His first cousin, Joseph Beck and his family lived in dwelling 249 and were family 262. And his second cousin Joanna Bellis and her father John Bellis lived in dwelling 252 and were family 269. 1240. (i.) GLADYS BECK6, was born 4 April 1908 in New Jersey and died 4 August 1988 (Social Security Death Index). Her final residence is given in the social security death index as Blairstown, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Gladys appears on the 1910 census as a two year old child living with her parents on their farm in Knowlton Township (1910 United States Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 10B, 7 May 1910). In 1920, she lived with her parents and attended school (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 161, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 21B, 5&6 January 1920). Gladys married circa 1928, Harold D. Brands, as her first husband. He was born 23 March 1906 in Pennsylvania. In 1930, the couple lived in Forest Lake Township in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. Harold's widowed mother, Effie C. Brands (age 58), and his widowed grandmother, Lucine M. Shelp (age 77), lived with them. They also had a boarder named William Bayler (age 66). The couple owned their home, they also owned a radio. Frank was a farmer. William Bayler was a farm laborer and proably worked for the brands farmily for his room and board (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 58-14, Forest Lake Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 2A, 10 April 1930). Gladys married second, James F. Vough. He was born 4 March 1945 and died 12 August 2002 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, Morris County, New Jersey of a heart attack (Beck 2004; Ruether n.d.; Social Security Death Index). Child of Gladys Beck and Harold Brands:

2932. (i.) FRANK C. BRANDS7, was born 12 September 1932 in New Jersey and died unknown (Ruether n.d.)

1241. (ii.) KENNETH BECK6, was born 1909 in New Jersey and died April 1954, at the age of 44. His obituary was printed in the Washington Star on 18 April 1954. Kenneth appears on the 1910 census as a 10 month old infant living with his parents on their farm in Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey (1910 United States Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 10B, 7 May 1910). In 1920, Kenneth lived with his parents and attended school (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 161, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 21B, 5&6 January 1920). By 1930, Kenneth was finished with school and was working as an electrician's helper. He was single and was still living at home with his parents (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 21-13, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 9A, 21 April 1930). Kenneth married in 1931, Mildred Lantz. After Kenneth's death in 1954, Mildred married Kenneth's second cousin, W. Cline Read6 (Boyd Read5, Isaac Fonger Read4, Isaac Read, III3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) (Beck 2004). Children of Kenneth Beck and Mildred Lantz:

2935. (iii.) STANLEY BECK7, was born 1938 and died in 1941 after falling out of a moving car (Beck 2004).

2931. (iii.) CHILD BECK6, was born between circa 1898 and 1910 and died before the 1910 census was enumerated. The 1910 census indicates that Frank and Amanda (Walters) Beck were the parents of three chilrdn, two of whom were living in 1910. This child was probably born between about 1898 (when Frank and Amanda were married) and 1910 (when the census was enumerated) (1910 United States Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 10B, 7 May 1910).

588. (iii.) DAISY BECK5, was born circa 1874 in New Jersey and died unknown. She was a resident of her parent's household in 1880 (1880 United States Census, Enumeration District 201, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 458C).
