NELSON E. AYERS5 AND MARY R. WILDRICK5

2435 .NELSON E. AYERS5 (Sarah Maria Read4, Samuel D. Read3, Samuel Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 21 December 1875 in Independence Township, Warren County, New Jersey and died 1948 (AFN:33T8-KW). In 1880, Nelson lived with his parents, Jacob Cummins Ayers and Sarah Maria Read on their farm in Independence Township, Warren County and attended school (1880 United States Federal Census, Independence Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 434D). After his mother died on 21 September 1885, Robert's father moved to Phelps County, Missouri. Jacob Ayers appears to have taken his three eldest sons west with him—Walter, Samuel and Robert—the five younger children stayed behind in New Jersey. Nelson's father soon remarried in Missouri to Margaret Elizabeth Mings on 14 March 1887. His father would have seven more children with Margaret. Where Nelson resided in New Jersey after his father moved to Missouri is unknown. However, he probably remained in New Jersey, as he married one of his third cousins who is known to have grown up in New Jersey. On 9 September 1905, Nelson married (911) Mary Wildrick,5 (Ruth Ann Read4, Samuel Cooke Read3, Aaron Read2, Joseph Read1). She was known as Mayme to her family and was born 23 March 1880 in Warren County, New Jersey. The couple had four children, two sons and two daughters. Mamye died on 16 February 1915 and was buried in Union Brick Cemetery, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Her tombstone is inscribed "Mayme R. Ayers" (Reuther n.d.). After Mayme's death, Nelson remarried circa 1920, Sophie (Last Name Unknown). She was born circa 1875 in New Jersey. Her parents were immigrants from Germany. In 1930, Nelson and Sophie lived in Independence Township. According to the census they owned their home, which was valued at $10,000. The home was not located on a farm. Nelson worked as a laborer on a local truck farm. Sophie worked at home as a weaver. Nelson's two sons by Mayme lived with the couple: Lewis and John Ayers (ages 21 and 17 respectively). Nelson's daughter by Mamye, Catherine (age 18), was living with Mayme's sister Lillian Wildrick Pitt in Frelinghuysen Township. Catherine was attending school, which may be why she was residing with her aunt and uncle and not with her father and step-mother (1930 United States Federal Census, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, enumeration district 21-6, sheet 2B, 14 April 30 and Independence Township, Warren County, New Jersey, enumeration district 21-12, sheet 6B, 28 April 1930).
