LEWIS SCHNECK AYERS5
2437 .LEWIS SCHNECK AYERS5 (Sarah Maria Read4, Samuel D. Read3, Samuel Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 1 February 1881 in Independence Township, Warren County, New Jersey and died 30 March 1971 in Warren County, New Jersey (LDS AFN:33T8-M8; Social Security Death Index). He appears to have been one of the children of Jacob and Sarah (Read) Ayers who remained behind in New Jersey when his father and older brothers migrated to Missouri circa 1886. In 1910, Lewis lived with his Father's sister Mabel and her husband Lewis M. Schneck (whom Lewis Ayers had been named after). The Schneck's owned a farm on Mt. Bethel Road in Independenc Township. The Schneck household also included Lewis's aunt Elizabeth Ayers Lundy, who was a 68 year old widow. Lewis and Mabel Schneck's son, 24 year old Raymond R. Schneck, was also a resident of the household. Lewis Schneck was a farmer, and Raymond Schneck and his cousin Lewis Ayers were laborers on the farm (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 132, Independence Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 1A, 15 April 1910).
Lewis married circa 1910, Mabel Force. She was born circa 1882 in New Jersey. The LDS files indicate that Lewis was born in Missouri and married Mabel in Missouri (LDS AFN:C2LNVL). However, the 1930 census data indicates that Mabel was born in New Jersey and that the family was living in New Jersey in 1913 when their son Marvin was born. It seems unlikely that they were married in Missouri. In 1930, the family lived in Independence Township. Mabel's brother, Isaac Force (age 76), lived with the family. Lewis Ayers owned a dairy farm and Isaac worked on the dairy farm as laborer (1930 United States Federal Census, Independence Township, Warren County, New Jersey, enumeration district 21-12, sheet 8-B, 6 May 1930). According to the Social Security Death Index, Lewis Ayers was living in Vienna, Warren County, New Jersey at the time of his death.
