He married Martha (Last Name Unknown). She was born 12 May 1835 in Ireland and died 14 July 1919, age 84 years, 2 months and 2 days. George did not serve in the Civil War. He hired a sub—John C. Vail, who enlisted on 7 July 1863 (Stueben County, New York GenWeb). George and Martha are buried in Nondaga Cemetery, Bath, Steuben County, New York. According to the transcript I consulted, George is buried under Read and Martha is buried under Reed (Stueben County GenWeb).

She was born circa 1881in New York and died 27 November 1956, age 75 years. In 1920, George and Ella lived in a rented home on Campbell Avenue in the village of Bath in the Town of Bath, Stueben County. Alwyn was employed as a laborer in a ladder factory (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 185, Bath Village, Town of Bath, Steuben County, New York, sheet 9A, 12 January 1920). They are buried in Nondaga Cemetery, Bath, Steuben County, New York (Steuben County, New York GenWeb). Child of Alwyn and Ella Read:

2733. (ii.) ANSON J. READ⁵, was born 25 March 1862 in New York, probably in Steuben County. and died 7 May 1931, age 69 years, 2 months, 13 days. In 1920, he lived with his brother Stephen, sister Viola and Aunt Elizabeth Read on Robie Street in the village of Bath, Towns of Bath. The three siblings and their aunt lived in their own home, which they owned free and clear of all mortgages. Elizabeth Read was a farm operator and Anson worked as a laborer on the farm. Stephen was a lawyer. Viola appears to have been keeping house for the family (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 186, Bath Village, Election District 6, Town of Bath, Steuben County, New York, sheet 9A, 16 January 1920). Anson never married. He died a little over a year after the census was taken and was buried in Nondaga Cemetery, Bath, Steuben County, New York. According to the cemetery transcript I consulted, he is buried under the name "Anson J. Reed" (Stueben County, New York GenWeb).
