28. AMOS OGDEN3 (Hannah Read Ogden Vaughn2, Joseph Read1), was born 21 May 1785, in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey; died 10 November 1871 in the Town of Danby, Tompkins County, New York. Amos married on Christmas day 1806 in Sussex County, New Jersey, Anna Lanterman, daughter of Jacob Lanterman and Mercy Luse (Reuther n.d.). She was born 23 February 1782 and died 2 January 1859 in Varna, Tompkins County, New York (Reuther n.d.; Stewart 1998). Anna's sister, Sarah Ann Lanterman, married Amos's brother, Joseph Read Ogden (Lanterman 1998). Amos and Anna Ogden lived in the Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York in 1850. Amos was Miller. He owned real estate valued at $5,130. Elizabeth Lanterman (born circa 1787 in New Jersey) lived with the couple. She was probably Anna's sister (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 105, 29 August 1850). After Anna's death, Amos married Elsy (Last name unknown). She was born circa 1800 in New York. In 1870, Amos and Elsey resided in the Town of Danby (post office Ithaca, New York). The census lists Amos's occupation as farmer. He owned real estate valued at $2,000 and a personal estate valued at $300. The census indicates that neither Amos nor Elsey could read or write. The 1870 census also gives Amos's place of birth as New York (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Danby, Tompkins County, New York, page 36, 6 June 1870). There were no children by this second marriage.

Mary is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. She is not listed in her father's obituary, although she was still living in 1871. Child of Mary Ogden and William Hart:

163. (ii.) BELINDA OGDEN4, was born 7 January 1810, in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey; died 5 July 1889. She married in Warren County on 26 February 1826, Henry Harris (Diary of Morris Crisman, see Reuther n.d.). At the time of her father's death she was residing in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. Kern gives her residence as Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. She lived there with her daughter Lydia Harris Bloom in 1870 and 1880. In 1870, Lydia was single. Belinda owned her home, which was valued at $1000. She owned a personal estate valued at $1000 (1870 United States Federal Census, 1st and 4th Election District, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 75, 4 August 1870; 1880 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 78C). Belinda is buried in Pleasent Grove Cemetery, or Forest Grove Cemetery, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. Children of Belinda Ogden and Henry Harris:

807. (ii.) LYDIA ANN HARRIS5, was born circa 1830 in New York and died after 1880. In 1850 she lived with her parents in the Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 115, 9 September 1850). She lived with her mother in 1870 in the town of Dryden (1870 United States Federal Census, 1st and 4th Election District, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 75, 4 August 1870). Lydia married 28 March 1873 in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York, J. Sydney Bloom. He was born circa 1823 in New York. At the time of their wedding, Sidney resided in West Dryden, New York and Lydia resided in Owego, New York (Martin 1995). In 1880, the couple lived in the Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. Sydney was a farmer. Lydia's mother, Belinda Ogden Harris lived with the family. Also living in the household were Thomas and Helen Bethel (ages 33 and 28 respectively) and their children Willie (age 5) and Glenn (age 1). Thomas Bethel was a "boat man" and Helen was a cook on the boat (1880 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 78C).

808. (iii.) MARY E. HARRIS5, was born 3 March 1832, in New York and died 30 January 1923. In 1850, she lived with her parents on their farm in the town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 115, 9 September 1850). She married Joseph Addison Tichenor, known as "Joe" (Kern 1938). He was born 9 March 1822, the son of Isaac and Mary (Magee) Tichenor. Joe died 6 July 1897 (by family record, 8 July by tombstone). Mary E. Harris was the second wife of Joseph Tichenor. In 1850, the Harris family lived in dwelling 869. In dwelling 873 was the family of Joseph A. Tichenor and his first wife, Catherine Ostrander. Catherine was the daughter of William & Nancy (Crutts) Ostrander. She was born 22 November 1824 and died 6 February 1852. The couple had four children: Elmer (age 5), William C. (age 3), Nancy (age 2) and Charles (age 1). Joseph's father, Isaac Tichenor (born circa 1783 in New Jersey), also lived with the family. Joseph and Isaac farmers. Joseph owned real property valued at $2000, while Isaac held real estate valued at $25 (ibid.). Joseph married Mary Harris between 1852 and 1854. They lived in the Town of Dryden. Joseph's son Elmer Augustine Tichenor (12 March 1845—8 February 1885) married Sallie A. Davenport, She died 20 March 1871, age 29 years and 9 months. She was buried in Ellis Hollow Cemetery, Ellis Hollow Road, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. Joe and Mary are also buried in Ellis Hollow Cemetery. 2547. (i.) MARY DELPHINE "FENA" TICHENOR6, and her twin "Rena" were born 7 August 1854 in New York. They died within a few days of each other in November 1861. "Fena" died on the 17th (dates are from the family bible, tombstone gives death year of 1862). The twins are buried in Ellis Hollow Cemetery, Ellis Hollow Road, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York.

CATHERINE IRENA "RENA" TICHENOR6, and her twin "Fena" were born 7 August 1854 and died 13 November 1861, age 7 years and 3 months (dates are from family bible, tombstone gives death date of 1862). She is buried with her twin in Ellis Hollow Cemetery, Ellis Hollow Road, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York.

809. (iv.) LAVINA B. HARRIS5, was born circa 1835, New York amd died unknown In 1850, she lived with her parents on their farm in the town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 115, 9 September 1850).

810. (v.) HARRIET M. "HATTIE" HARRIS5, was born circa 1838 in New York and died after 1880. In 1850, she lived with her parents on their farm in the town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. Hattie attended school during the census year (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 115, 9 September 1850). She married John C. Elston. He was born circa 1830 in New York. John worked as a painter. The couple resided in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York in 1870 and 1880. They supplemented their income by taking in student boarders. In 1880, their boarders wre William H. Young (age 15) and Charles A. Shafford (age 16). Both boys were attending Cornell University (1870 United States Federal Census, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York, page 225, 30 June 1870). In 1880, they also had two students boarding with them: James S. Anslie (age 23) and Lewis G. Fay (age 20). A young woman named Eliza Teeter was a live-in domestic servant. She was 29 years old. By 1880, John Elston had changed professions and was working as a traveling agent, that is a salesman (1880 United States Federal Census, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York, page 251B)

164. (iii.) LYDIA OGDEN4, was born 28 June 1812, in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey; died 22 December 1888. She married Larkin A. Niver (Kern 1938). He was born circa 1804 in Delaware and died before 1880. In 1850, Larkin and Lydia lived in the Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. Larkin was a farmer. He owned real estate valued at $4800. The couple's five children lived with them, as did 22 year old William Lampman (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 82, 10 August 1850). According to Kern (1938), Lydia eventually resided in McLean, Tompkins County, New York. In her father's obituary Lydia is listed as a resident of McLean. In 1880, Lydia was a widow. She lived by herself in McLean (1880 United States Federal Census, McLean, Tompkins County, New York, page 134C). Children of Lydia Ogden and Larkin Niver:

2502. (iii.) HARRIET E. NIVER5, was born 23 April 1837 in New York and died 29 May 1838, age 1year, 1month and 6 days. She is buried in the "old" or west section of Peruville Cemetery, Town of Groton, Tompkins County, New York.

2503. (iv.) ARNOLD NIVER5, was born circa 1840 in Pennsylvania and died unknown. In 1850, he lived with his parents on their farm and attended school in the Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 82, 10 August 1850). He married Lydia Jane (Last Name Unknown). She was born circa 1842 in New York. The couple lived in the Town of Groton (post office Groton) in 1870. Arnold was employed as an auctioneer. The couple appears to have been renting their home, as no real estate value is listed in the census. They owned a personal estate valued at $750 (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Groton, Tompkins County, New York, pages 149-150, 8 July 1870). In 1880, the couple lived in Dryden. The census lists their occupations as landlord and landlady. Their four children lived them. They also had two boarders: Lewis Van Woert (age 22) a Freight Agent for the Railroad and Wells Howland (age 19) a clerk in a store (1880 United States Federal Census, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 87B). He lived with his family in the town of Groton, Tompkins county, New York in 1870 (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Gorton, Tompkins County, New York, page 150, 8 July 1870). By 1880, the Nivers had moved to the Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. Willie appears on the 1880 census as a resident of his parents household in Dryden (1880 United States Federal Census, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 87B).

2550. (ii.) ELLA NIVER6, was born October 1869 in New York and died unknown. She appears on the 1870 census as a 7 month old infant (born October 1869). The census gave her name as "L.A." She lived with her family in the town of Groton, Tompkins county, New York in 1870 (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Gorton, Tompkins County, New York, page 150, 8 July 1870). By 1880, the Nivers had moved to the Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. Ella appears on the 1880 census as a resident of his parents household in Dryden (1880 United States Federal Census, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 87B).

166. (v.) JACOB OGDEN4, was born 24 October 1819, in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 10 February 1891. He married Eliza Emmons (Kern 1938). She was born circa 1820 in New York. In 1850, Jacob and Eliza lived on a farm in the Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. Their real estate was valued at $2,500 (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 120, 12 September 1850). Three of the couple's children lived with them: Susan, Amos and Daniel. The 1870 census again lists Jacob and Eliza as residents of the Town of Dryden. Their post office was Etna, New York. Jacob was a farmer. He owned real estate valued at $4,000 and a personal estate valued at $2,059. Their children Susan and George lived with them. Their son Daniel lived on the adjacent farm (1870 United States Federal Census, 1st and 4th Election District, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 76, 5 August 1870). In 1880, Jacob and Eliza lived in Dryden. Their son George lived with them, as well as George's wife Eva and their two year old daughter, Nellie May. Jacob and George were both farmers (1880 United States Federal Census, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 100B). Jacob is buried in Pleasent Grove Cemetery, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. She was still single and living at home in 1870 (1870 United States Federal Census, 1st and 4th Election District, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 76, 5 August 1870). Susan married after 1870, Robert Cornelius (Kern 1938). He was born 13 April 1855 and died 17 June 1924. In 1880, Susan and Robert lived in Dryden. Robert was a farmer. The couple did not have children (1880 United States Federal Census, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 100C). They are buried in Ellis Hollow Cemetery, Ellis Hollow Road, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York.

In 1850, he lived with his parents on their farm and attended school (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 120, 12 September 1850). Amos married Priscilla Hunt, the daughter of Horton Hunt and Audera Ford. She was born 2 November 1841 and died 17 March 1874. In 1870, Amos and Priscilla lived in the Town of Caroline, Tompkins County. Their post office was Caroline Center, New York. Amos was a farmer and Priscilla was keeping house. They owned real estate valued at $5,000 and a personal estate valued at $1,670. The couple did not have any children when the 1870 census was enumerated, their son Horton was bron the following year (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Caroline, Tompkins county, New York, page 23, 18 August 1870). Priscilla died in 1874. After her death, Amos married Lydia Allen. They were married in 1880, when the census was taken. In 1880, they lived in Dryden. Amos was a farmer. Horton Ogden, Amos's son by Priscilla, lived with Amos and Lydia. They did not have children together. Amos and Priscilla are buried in Ellis Hollow Cemetery, Ellis Hollow Road, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. Child of Amos and Priscilla Ogden:

1149. (i.) HORTON OGDEN 6, was born 1871 in New York and died unknown. He married Edith Locke, daughter of Henry D. Locke and Mary Gilbert. She was born 1 October 1874 and died May 20, 1964. She is buried in East Lawn Cemetery, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. Children of Horton and Edith Ogden:

2697. (i.) FLORENCE P. OGDEN7, was born 22 March 1896 and died 2 May 1962, in Newark, New York. She never married. She is buried in East Lawn Cemetery, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York (Clark 2004).

2698. (ii.) CLARA ELIZABETH OGDEN7, was born 30 September 1901in Groton, Tompkins County, New York and died 30 March 1977 in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. She married in October 1936, Russell Cobb. They resided in Ellis Hollow, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York (Clark 2004).

2699. (iii.) HENRY EMMONS OGDEN7, was born 21 July 1902 in Ellis Hollow, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York and died 17 August 1980 in Ellis Hollow. He married Perces Rogers. They resided in Ellis Hollow, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York (Clark 2004).

533. (iii.) DANIEL DAVID OGDEN 5, was born January 1846, in the Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York and died 1908 in the Town of Dryden. In 1850, he lived on his parents's farm and attended school (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 120, 12 September 1850). Married in 1867, Adeline Smiley (Kern 1938) the daughter of John Smiley and Phoebe Locey. Adeline was born 24 June 1843 and died 11 February 1915 in Ellis Hollow, Town of Dryden (Clark 2004). In 1870, Daniel and Adeline lived with their one year ole son Jay in the Town of Dryden. Daniel was a farmer. He owned real estate valued at $5,350 and a personal estate valued at $1,400. The family's post office was Etna, New York. Their farm was adhacent to Daniel's parent's farm (1870 United States Federal Census, 1st and 4th Election District, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 76, 5 August 1870). In 1880, Daniel and Adeline lived in the Town of Dryden. Daniel was a farmer. The couple's three children lived with them, as well as Adeline's mother, Phoebe Smiley (who was 78 years old). The family had an 18 year old live-in servant named Libbie Cornelius (1880 United States Federal Census, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 100B). Adeline and Daniel are buried in Lot 3-16 Willow Glen Cemetery, Town of Dryden, New York. Adeline was buried 11 February 1915. Children of Daniel and Adeline:

He appears on the 1870 census as a one year old child listed under the name of "Jay" (1870 United States Federal Census, 1st and 4th Election District, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 76, 5 August 1870). In 1880, he lived with his parents on their farm in Dryden, Tompkins County, New York (1880 United States Federal Census, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 100B). Jay married Winifred Arcenia Phelps, the daughter of William Phelps and Mary Hitchcock. She was born 30 June 1870 in Cortland, Cortland County, New York and died 28 March 1951 in Auburn, Cayuga County, New York. Jay was buried in Morningside Cemetery, Syracuse, Onandaga County, New York on 24 April 1939 (Clark 2004). Children of Jay Ogden and Arcenia Phelps:

2787. (ii.) RICHARD PHELPS OGDEN7, was born 29 September 1903 in Cortland, Cortland County, New York and died 1964 in Auburn, Cayuga County, New York. He married on 17 October 1927, Jeanette Hull. She was born 1908 and died 1988. Richard was buried in Soule Cemetery, Hillcrest Section, Auburn, Cayuga County, New York (Clark 2004).

2788. (iii.) BARBARA LOUISE OGDEN7, was born 9 December 1914 in Auburn, Cayuga County, New York and died unknown (Clark 2004). She married on 2 May 1945, in Clovis, Curry County, New Mexico Robert Clyde Pettingell. He was born 21 July 1928 in Todeo, Lucas County, Ohio and died 23 January 1994 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico. Child of Barbara Ogden and Robert Pettingell:

2554. (ii.) SUSAN MABEL OGDEN 6, was born 1873 in Etna, Tompkins County, New York and died 1948 in Syracuse, Onandaga County, New York (Clark 2004). In 1880, she lived with her parents on their farm in Dryden, Tompkins County, New York (1880 United States Federal Census, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 100B). She married on 8 August 1894, Asa Knapp, the son of Cyrus Knapp and Helen Wilson. He was born 1872 in the town of Caroline, Tompkins County, New York and died 1948 in Syracuse, Onandaga County, New York (Clark 2004). Susan is buried in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York.

In 1880, he lived with his parents on their farm in the Town of Dryden (1880 United States Federal Census, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 100B). Verne married Mahetabel H. "May" Walden. She was born 5 May 1883 in Spencer, New York and died 18 January 1971 in Ithaca, New York. They are buried with Verne's parents in Lot 3-16 Willow Glen Cemetery, Town of Dryden, New York. Verne's tombstone is labeled "Verne C. Ogden." Also inscribed on his tombstone : Hazel L. Ogden, 1903-1904 (their daughter). Children of Verne and May Ogden:

2700. (i.) HAZEL LUELLA OGDEN 7, was born 25 August 1903 and died 4 August 1904 in Ellis Hollow Tompkins County, New York (Clark 2004). There is a memorial carved for her on her father's grave stone in Lot 3-16 Willow Glen Cemetery, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York.

2793. (ii.) VELMA CARLITA OGDEN 7, was born 25 November 1905 in Ellis Hollow, Tompkins County, New York and died 8 May 1970 in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. She married on 26 October 1934, Ivan Wesley Clark, the son of Charles Clark and Laura Adams. He was born 18 January 1906 in Semporonius, New York and died 8 September 2001 in Lakeside Nursing Home in Ithaca, New York (Clark 2004). Child of Velma Ogden and Ivan Clark:

2794. (iii.) MARILYN JOYCE "MICKEY" OGDEN 7, was born 1 June 1921 in Varna, Tompkins County, New York and died unknown. She married on 18 August 1945, Charles Jackson "Jack" Weston, the son of Belle Daniels. He was born 15 July 1915 in Binghampton, Broome County, New York and unknown (Clark 2004). He lived with his parents in 1870 in the Town of Dryden, New York (1870 United States Federal Census, 1st and 4th Election District, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 76, 5 August 1870). George married after 1870, Eva A. Heffron (Kern 1938). She was born 19 November 1857 and died 16 February 1921 in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. The couple made their home with George's parents in 1880. Both George and his father Jacob were farmers (1880 United States Federal Census, Dryden, Tompkins County, New York, page 100C). 2556. (i.) NELLIE MAY OGDEN 6, was born 20 August 1877 in Hibbards Corners (Ellis Hollow), Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York and died 20 December 1961 in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. She attended Ithaca High School. According to her year book she "Entered from Hibbard's Corners, N. Y., Sept., 1891; graduated Acad[emic], '95. Teaching, 1895-97; since 1897 engaged in duties of housekeeper. Married, 1897; one child--Alleine Bernice. Ithaca" (Tompkins County Genweb). Nellie May married in 1897, Arthur Bradford Cornelius. He was born 19 February 1874 in Ellis Hollow, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York and died 1973 in Ellis Hollow. Nellie is buried in Snyder Hill Cemetery, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. Children of Nellie Ogden and Arthur Cornelius:

2701. (i.) ALLIENCE BERNICE CORNELIUS7, was born 1898 and died 12 April 1957. She married Joseph Crooker. He was born 23 June 1900 and died 13 January 1967 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York (Clark 2004). Allience is buried in Snyder Hill Cemetery, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. Child of Allience Cornelius and Joseph Crooker:

2805. (i.) BARBARA JEAN CROOKER8, was born 1February 1920, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York and died 28 November 1998 in Ithaca. She married Walter Grant Lane. He was born 25 February 1915 in Grey Eagle, Todd County, Minnesota and died 23 November 1994 in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York (Clark 2004).

2702. (ii.) NELSON "WARD" CORNELIUS7, was born 11 August 1901 and died 6 December 1990. He married Herma Kerns. Ward is buried in Snyder Hill Cemetery, Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, New York.

2784.(ii.) GEORGE B. OGDEN, Jr.6, was born 1887 and died unknown (Clark 2004). Pettingell suggests that he may have moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan.

167. (vi.) JOHN OGDEN4, was born 15 November 1822, in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey; died 6 September 1823, age 9 months, 22 days(?) Warren County, New Jersey. He is buried in Union Brick Cemetery, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey.
