3097. HERBERT MINTON RAUB6 (Arthur Bradley Raub5, Sarah Martin4, Lydia Read3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 19 January 1892 in Sweetland Township, Muscatine County, Iowa and died 11 September 1979 in Orange County, California. He is listed as a male child in the county birth records, his parents names are given as Arthur and Mary Raub (Bossart n.d.; California Death Index; Social Security Death Index). Herbert appears on the 1895 Iowa state census as a three year old child living in Sweetland Township with his parents, siblings and grandfather RAub (1895 Iowa State Census). The 1900 federal census gives his age as eight and states that he was attending school (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 112, Sweetland Township, Muscatine County, Iowa, sheet 4B, 9 June 1900).
Herbert's father died in August 1909, when Herbert was 17 years old. Eight months later, when the census was enumerated, his mother was listed in the census as the farm manager and and his brother Clarence as the farmer. Herbert's two older sisters, Gertie and Bessie still lived at home. Gertie was listed with no occupation, but she was probably keeping house for the family. Bessie was teaching school. Herbert and his youngest sister Mary, were in school (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 117, Sweetland Township, Muscatine County, Iowa, sheet 4A, 22 April 1910).
Herbert probably did not attend school much past the year 1910. He was 18 years old and was probably finishing high school when the census was taken. Five years after the census, he married on 10 March 1915, Genevieve June Moorhead, the daughter of Moses Edmund Moorhead, Sr. and Nancy Jane Barnes. Her brother Moses was married to Herbert's sister Bessie. Genevieve was born 6 June 1890 on a farm east of Blue Grass, Scott County, Iowa and died 3 May 1988 in Orange County, California (California Death Index; Powell 2001). A 1919-1920 directory for Muscantine County lists H.M. Raub, his wife Genevieve and children Kenneth and "Carroll" on Route 2 in Muscatine. Herbert was a farmer and owned 58 and a half acres (Atkinson 1919). The 1920 census further elaborates on the directory entry. The Raubs lived on a farm in Sweetland Township. They owned the farm, but it was mortgaged. Herbert and Genevieve still had two children, 3 year old Kenneth and 1 year old Carol. Neither child was in school (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 130, Sweetland Township, Muscatine County, Iowa, sheet 9A, 4 February 1920). Herbert raised Duroc hogs on his farm. These are red or reddish-brown swine which are also known as Duroc-Jersey hogs. In 1921, H.M. Raub won several awards for his Duroc hogs at the West Liberty Fair in Muscatine County (Iowa City Press Citizen, 29 August 1921).
By 1930, the Raubs had left their farm in Iowa and moved to South Moline Township, Rock Island County, Illinois. Herbert and Genevieve were renting a house for $35 per month and they owned a radio. They had four children: Kenneth, Carol, Harlan and Genevieve. Herbert was employed as a foreman on a farm but the family did not live on a farm (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 81-95, South Moline Township, Rock Island County, Illinois, sheet 7A, 10 April 1930).
3170. (i.) KENNETH HERBERT RAUB7, was born 13 February 1916 in Muscatine County, Iowa and died 2 December 1963 (Powell 2001; Social Security Death Index). Kenneth is listed in a 1919-1920 directory of Muscatine County as the son of H.M. Raub (Atkinson 1919). He also appears on the 1920 census as the son of Herbert and Genevieve Raub. He was not quite 4 years old when the census was enumerated and was not yet in school (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 130, Sweetland Township, Muscatine County, Iowa, sheet 9A, 4 February 1920). In 1930, "Herbert" (as named in the census) was 14. His family had moved from their farm in Iowa to a rented house in South Moline Township, Rock Island County, Illinois. Herbert's father managed a farm, but the family did not live on a farm. Herbert attended school during the 1930 census year (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 81-95, South Moline Township, Rock Island County, Illinois, sheet 7A, 10 April 1930). He married (First Name Unknown) Johnson. Kenneth's social security number was issued in Illinois before 1951 (Social Security Death Index). Children of Kenneth Raub:

She appears on the 1920 census as a one year old child living with her parents and older brother on the family farm in Sweetland Township, Muscatine County (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 130, Sweetland Township, Muscatine County, Iowa, sheet 9A, 4 February 1920). By 1930, Carol and her family had moved off the farm in Iowa and into a rented house in South Moline Township, Rock Island County, Illinois. Carol attended schol in South Moline (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 81-95, South Moline Township, Rock Island County, Illinois, sheet 7A, 10 April 1930). Carol married (First Name Unknown) Emerson (Powell 2001).

HARLAN KEITH RAUB7, was born 21 September 1922 in Muscatine County, Iowa and died 14 September 1988 in Orange County, California (California Death Index; Powell 2001; Social Security Death Index). In 1930, Harlan was 7. He lived with his parents in a rented house in South Moline Township, Rock Island County, Illinois and attended school (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 81-95, South Moline Township, Rock Island County, Illinois, sheet 7A, 10 April 1930). Harlan married (First Name Unknown) Griffith (Powell 2001). Harlan's social security number was issued in Illinois before 1951. He resided in Fullerton, Orange County, California at the time of his death (1988) (Social Security Death Index). Children of Harlan Raub:
