GEORGE HAZELETT HARTUNG7

3410. GEORGE HAZELETT HARTUNG7 (William Clinton Hartung6, Hulda Smith5, Elizabeth Read4, Isaac Read, III3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 10 August 1907 in Rocksburg, Harmony Township, Warren County, New Jersey and died 30 April 1974 (Anon 2001; Long Island 2005; Loughborough 2001; Social Security Death Index). In 1910, George Hartung lived with his parents and siblings on a rented farm along the River Road between Roxburg Street and Hutchinson Street in Harmony Township, Warren County, New Jersey. George was 2 years old and was too young to attend school (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 130, Harmony Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 8A, 2 May 1910).

George married on 29 June 1930, Lillian M. Frome, the daughter of Marvin Frome and Matilda Amendt. The wedding took place in the Lower Harmony Methodist Church in the village of Harmony, Warren County, New Jersey. The Rev. Mousdale officiated (Reuther n.d.). Lillian was born 3 June 1907 in New Jersey. She grew up in Belvidere, New Jersey. In 1910, she lived with her parents and Aunt Catherine Amendt in Belvidere. Her father was a flour miller (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 122, Belvidere Town, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 15B, 2 May 1910). By the time Lillian married George, Marvin Frome was a mill superintendent. He and Matilda lived at 54 Paul Street in Belvidere (Shampanore 1929:10 O).

George appeared as a farmer in the 1929 History and Directory of Warren County, New Jersey (Shampanore 1929:S16). The directory placed him in Roxburg in Harmony Township. He and Lillian started their married life in Harmony. However, I have been unable to find them in the 1930 census. They had two sons, Russell and Edward. George Hartung died in April 1974. He was a resident of Schenectady, Schenentady County, New York (Social Security Death Index).
