WILLIAM STUART HARTUNG7

3412. WILLIAM "STUART" HARTUNG7 (William Clinton Hartung6, Hulda Smith5, Elizabeth Read4, Isaac Read, III3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 14 May 1915 in Rocksburg, Harmony Township, Warren County, New Jersey and 19 June 1995 (Anon 2001; Long Island 2005; Longborough 2001; Social Security Death Index). In 1930, he lived with his parents and his younger sister Gertrude on the family's dairy farm in Rocksburg. His name is given as "Stuart" on the census. He was 14 years old and was in school (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 21-10, Harmony Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 13A, 22 April 1930).

Stuart married Jessie Dalrymple on 10 April 1937. She was born 4 April 1917 (Anon 2001; Long Island 2005; Loughborough 2001), the daughter of Wilmer and Ethel M. Dalrymple. Jessie had a twin sister named Bessie. In 1930, Jessie and Bessie and their parents lived on a farm on the Morris Turnpike near the town of Stewartsville in Greenwich Township, Warren County, New Jersey. The twins were in school together (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 21-7, Stewartsville, Greenwich Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 11B, 21 April 1930).

Stuart and Jessie had four children: Janet, Richard, Joan and an infant who was still born. Stuart's father's Bible in a memorandum states that "May 28 still-born to Stuart a son; buried May 29, 1943, at Belvidere Cemetery" (Anon 2001; Long Island 2005; Loughborough 2001). The couple's oldest child, Janet Elaine Hartung died on 23 February 1952 a few months before her 14th birthday. By 1964, Stuart and Jessie and their two surviving children, Richard and Joan, lived in Harmony Township (Citizen's Committee 1964:29). Stuart and Jessie eventually settled in the Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey area. Stuart lived in the Phillipsburg area at the time of his death in 1995 (Phone Book; Social Security Death Index).
