GERTRUDE ELIZABETH HARTUNG SNOVEL GILMAN7
3413. GERTRUDE ELIZABETH HARTUNG7 (William Clinton Hartung6, Hulda Smith5, Elizabeth Read4, Isaac Read, III3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 28 March 1921 in Rocksburg, Harmony Township, Warren County, New Jersey and died unknown (Anon 2001; Long Island 2005; Longborough 2001). In 1930, she lived with her parents and her next older brother Stuart on the family's dairy farm in Rocksburgh. Gertrude was 9 years old and was in school (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 21-10, Harmony Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 13A, 22 April 1930).
Gertrude's mother, Blanche Evelyn Young died 16 October 1946, when Gertrude was 25 yers old. Her brothers were all married and had children of their own by 1946. Her older sister Jennie Hartung Cook had died in 1938. Gertrude appears to have stayed at home to keep house for her father. Three years after Blanche died, Gertrude married Ellis Raymond Snovel, Jr. on 26 March 1949. A month and a half later, her father, William Clinton Hartung, married Lydia Raub, the widow of Charles K. Hance. They were married on 18 June 1949 (Anon 2001; Long Island 2005; Longborough 2001).
Ellis Snovel was born 11 August 1919 in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania (Anon 2001; Long Island 2005; Longborough 2001; Social Security Death Index). His father, Ellis Snovel, Sr. was a clerk for a machinery merchant. Ellis, Jr. grew up in Easton. In 1920, he lived with his parents, Ellis and Mary Jean Snovel, his paternal grandfather, James A. Snovel, and his older sister Mary C. Snovel at 3 Sullivan in the third ward of the city of Easton (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 110, Ward 3, Easton City, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, sheet 15A, 7 January 1920). By 1930, his parents had purchased a home at 481 Bushkill Dr. in Easton's third ward and his father was working as the treasurer of the pumpworks (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 48-108, Ward 3, Easton City, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, sheet 8A, 11 April 1930).
Ellis and Gertrude had two children, Sarah Jean and Roger. In 1964, Ellis, Gertrude and their two children lived in Harmony Township. Ellis's parents, Ellis, Sr. and Mary Jean Snovel also lived in Harmony Township (Citizen's Committee 1964:37). Ellis, Jr. and Gertrude eventually settled in the Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey area. They were residing in the Phillipsburg area when Ellis died on 29 August 1966 (Social Security Death Index). After Ellis died, Gertrude married Mark Gilman as her second husband (Anon 2001; Long Island 2005; Longborough 2001).
