John C. Read's obituary. Individuals listed in the obit included his children: Fayette, Mrs. Benjamin Rymon; Miss Sadie Read; Robert Read; Ethel, Mrs. Clair Linaberry (misspelled as Clara in obit); Abbie, Mrs. Walter Storm (widow of Virgil Loller); John W. Read; Harry Read; and Mary, Mrs. Philip S. Van Syckle. Also mentioned in the obit was John;s only surviving sibling, his brother Elias Read. His sisters Sarah Maria Read Ayers and Lydia A. Read were both deceased by 1934.

The photograph below was taken on Thursday, 24 March 2004, approximately an hour before sunset. The Mt Hermon Church yard is on a hillside adjacent to the Mount Hermon United Methodist Church (once known as Green's Chapel). John, Cornelia and Sadie are buried midway up the slope. There is one other marked grave on the lot, that of "Esther" Keneth Linaberry, one of John and Cornelia's grandchildren. The inscription on the main family stone is as follows:
