She was buried 19 November 1912 (Miller 2003). In 1880, the couple lived in Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey. They did not have children. Elias was employed as a farm hand (1880 United States Federal Census, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, Enumeration District 191, page 285B, 4 June 1880). By 1900, the couple lived in Hope Township with two of their four children. According to the census, three of their four children were still living in 1900 (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 189, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 3A, 4 June 1900). After Lizzie's death, Elias moved in with his daughter Edith and her husband Jay Linaberry. The family lived near Bridgeville in White Township, Warren County. Elias died in a house fire on 26 March 1938. He still lived with the Linaberrys in 1938 when their farm house caught on fire and burned almost completely to the ground. The Blairstown Press, reported the fire in the 31 March issue:
Elias Read, 84, was burned to death in bed on Saturday, when the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Lindaberry, at Bridgeville was almost entirely destoryed by fire. The Lindaberrys, their two children: Walter, 21, and Pearl, 15, and a farm hand, Richard Maddon, were at their breakfast about 6:20 a.m. when they saw smoke curling outside the house coming from the second story windows. Thinking immediately of his grandfather, who never arose until the family had finished breakfast, Wlater Lindaberry dashed to the stairway leading to the second floor. He found smoke and flames had cut off the second floor bedroom occupied by his grandfather.
The Belvidere firemen succeded in checking the flames after one side of the 10-room house had been burned. The loss is only partially covered by insurance, the family members said. Mr. Read had lived with the Lindaberrys a number of years. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lindaberry and Mrs. Myrtle Smith who resides near Haven, a son Samuel of Washington, and eight grandchildren. Children of Elias and Lizzie Read
