HANNAH VAUGHN OWEN BROWN3,
35. HANNAH VAUGHN3 (Hannah Read2, Joseph1), was born 24 April 1803, in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey, died 8 August 1874. She married first, Dugal Owen. He was born in circa 1800 and died 4 February 1832. He is buried in the Isaac Morris Burial Ground in Hector, Tompkins (now Schuyler) County, New York. Hannah married second, her half nephew, Joseph Brown, the son of her half sister, Rhoda Vaughn and Israel Brown. Joseph was born circa 1810 and died 25 July 1893, age 83. In the 1855 New York state census, Joseph and Hannah Brown are listed as residents of the town of Catherine, Schuyler County, New York. Their daughter Harriet M. Brwon lived with them. They also had a 17 year old live-in servant named Francisco Rueben. The Browns lived next door to Hannah's son the Rev. Daniel Vaughn Owen. In 1870, Joseph and Hannah lived on a farm in the Town of Montour, Schuyler County. Their post office was Catherine, New York. The couple owned their farm, which was valued at $3,180. They had a personal estate valued at $1,750. The couple had a live-in domestic servant named Ellen Leunger (age 20) (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Montour, Schuyler County, New York, page 580, 28 July 1870). Hannah died in 1874 at the age of 71. After Hannah's death, Joseph married Phebe Leffler. He died in 1893 and was buried with Hannah in Highland/Mitchell Hollow/Mitchell Cemetery in the town of Montour, Schuyler County, New York.

763. (i.) REV. DANIEL VAUGHN OWEN4, was born 28 February 1823 in the Town of Montour, Schuyler County, New York and died 18 July 1897 in Schuyler County, New York (Child 1893; Kern 1938). He married on 20 March 1841, Phebe Ann Slocum, who was born 21 April 1818 in Greenfield, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania and died 16 November 1895. In the 1855 New York state census, the family is listed as residents of the town of Catherine, Schuyler County, New York. The 1868-1869 Directory of the town of Catherine - Schuyler County, New York, lists the Rev. D.V. Oswen in Odessa, Wesleyan Minister, with a farm of 93.5 acres. The 1870 United States Federal Census gave Daniel's occupation as "farmer" not as minister. The Owen farm was valued at $4,650 and their personal estate was valued at $1,500. The census gave their post office as Catherine, New York (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Catherine, Schuyler County, New York, 15 July 1870). 836. (i.) HURON DUGAL OWEN5, was born 22 September 1842, in Schuyler County, New York and died 1932. In 1870, he lived with his parents on the family farm in the Town of Catherine. He worked as a farm laborer (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Catherine, Schuyler County, New York, 15 July 1870). He married after 1870, Mary Larue, who was born 1845 and died 1927. They resided in Montour Falls, Schuyler County, New York. They are buried in Highland/Mitchell Hollow/Mitchell Cemetery in the town of Montour, Schuyler County, New York.
837. (ii.) URCILLA M. OWEN5, was born 26 January 1845 in Schuyler County, New York and died 13 January 1878. She is listed in a transcript of the 1855 New York State Census as "Drusilla Owens" (Schuyler County, New York GenWeb—census and directories). She did not reside with her parents in 1870 (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Catherine, Schuyler County, New York, 15 July 1870).
838. (iii.) MELVIN JOSEPH OWEN5, was born 13 June 1852 and died unknown. In 1870, he lived with his parents on the family farm in the Town of Catherine and attended school. He worked on his father's farm (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Catherine, Schuyler County, New York, 15 July 1870).
839. (iv.) LAYTON AMOS OWEN5, was born 15 January 1854 in Catherine (now Mountour) Tompkins (now Schuyler County), New York and died 9 July 1945. In 1870, he lived with his parents on the family farm in the Town of Catherine and attended school. He worked on his father's farm (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Catherine, Schuyler County, New York, 15 July 1870). The firm of Fowler and Owen was a grocery and provisions store located in the town of Catherine. Layton sevrved as the Catherine Town Clerk during the years 1893 through 1894 (Child 387, 439). Layton and Elsie are buried in Highland/Mitchell Hollow/Mitchell Cemetery in the town of Montour, Schuyler County, New York.
840. (v.) ELVIRA A. OWEN5, was born 7 May 1856 and died 20 June 1934. In 1870, she lived with her parents on the family farm in the Town of Catherine and attended school (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Catherine, Schuyler County, New York, 15 July 1870). As an adult she resided in Odessa, New York. She is buried in Highland/Mitchell Hollow/Mitchell Cemetery in the town of Montour, Schuyler County, New York.
