361. ISSAC JOHNSON KINNEY,4 (Catherine Read Kinney 3, Aaron Read2, Joseph Read1)
was born 4 March 1853 in New Jersey (DiPetro 1998; LDS Batch# C509751; Newberry c1934) and died 1913. Isaac lived with his parents on their farm in Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey in 1860. His parents moved to Susquehanna County Pennsylvania in about 1867. Isaac, who was about 14 years old went to Pennsylvania with his family (Newberry c.1934). In 1870, he was a resident of his parents home in Dimock Township, Susquehanna County. He attended school during the 1870 census year. The census gives his name as "Johnson" (1870 United States Federal Census, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, page 179, 12 August 1870). He married in Pennsylvania, Helen Lilly Johnson, the daughter of John Johnson and Julia Ann Sutton (Scott-Fritzen 1998). She was born 1854 in Pennsylvania and died 1939 (DiPetro 1998). In 1880, Isaac and Helen Kinney lived in Lathrop Township, Susquehanna County. Isaac was a farmer and Helen was keeping house. The couple did not have children at the time of the census. Issac and Helen lived in dwelling 216. Helen's parents lived in dwelling 214. John Johnson was a 58 year old farmer. Julia Johnson was 52 years old. None of the couple's children resided in their house. Instead they had three live-in servants: George Cand, an 18 year old farm laborer amd 20 year old Emma Wooley and 19 year old Amanda Maynard, who were domestic servants. Isaac's sister Jennie KInney Giles and her husband Thomas lived in dwelling 213 with Rufus Lindley and his family (1880 United States Federal Census, Lathrop, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, page 277C). Isaac appears to have served in the Spanish American War. There is a Spanish American War emblem/flag with his grave in Union Cemetery in Susquehanna County (DiPetro 1998). By 1910, Isaac and Helen lived on West Valley Road in Lathrop Township. Their daughter Pearl and her husband Grover Hinkly lived with the Kinneys. The Kinneys owned the farm, but Issac was retired. By 1930, the Hinkleys had purchased their farm. The census indicates that it was a dairy farm. The household included Grover and Pearle, their daughter Helen and Pearle's widowed mother, Helen Johnson Kinney. They alo had a hired man named Andy Watson living with them. Andy was 24. He was born in New York to a Swedish father and a Finnish mother. The Hinkleys lived in dwelling 98. The Valentine Family, headed by Lester and Stella Valentine, lived in dwelling 97 (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 50-28, Lathrop Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 5A, 19 May 1930).
