WILLIAM VAUGHN3
37. WILLIAM VAUGHN3, (Hannah Read Ogden Vaughn2, Joseph Read1), was born 3 February 1806, in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey and died 18 November 1887. William married on 28 April 1825, Lavina Martin, the daughter of William Martin. She was born 10 April 1807 in Hector, Tompkins County, New York and died 12 March 1883.
William and Laviana appear on the 1825 New York State Census as residents of the Town of Hector, Tompkins County, New York. Only two inidividuals appear in their household: William and Lavina. The census indicates that William was subject to militia duty (he was 19 years old in February 1825), but he was not old emough to vote (which was age 21). Table 1 summarizes the 1825 census entry (Schuyler County, New York GenWeb—census and directories).

By 1830, William and Lavina had one child, their daughter Azubah. William's mother Hannah resided with them in 1830. All of her children were finally married. She had been a widow for 20 years and was 63 years old. Whether she remained with William until her death in 1839, or if she resided with her other children is currently unknown. The Vaughns still resided in the Town of Hector in 1830 (See Table 2).

In 1840, William and Lavina had two children, their daughter Azubah and their son Erie. The family lived in the Town of Hector. They were surrounded by William's extended family. The extended Vaughn/Ogden family appear on pages 346-347 of the Federal Census as follows: line 3, William Vaughn; line 5, Ananias C. Thompson, husband of William's sister Amanda Vaughn; line 6, Ogden Snyder, Williams's half-nephew; line 8, Isaac Snyder, husband of Sally Ogden, William's half sister; line 9, Ephraim Morris, not family in 1840, but his daughter Emeline would marry William's son Erie; line 10, Henry Kimball, husband of William's late half-sister Rachel Vaughn Kimball; and Samuel Vaughn, William's brother. According to the census there were 4 residents in William's household, one of whom was engaged in agriculture. Table 3 summarizes William's household in 1840:

She married 19 October 1845 Samuel Williams Sackett. Their wedding was performed by the Rev. B. Rogers. He was born 11 September 1820 in Nassau, New York and died 15 May 1880, age 59 years, 9 months. He was the son of Philo Sackett and Grace Perkins. Samuel's neice, Grace Sackett, married Marshall V. Allen, the son of Azubah's first cousin Rachel Vaughn Allen. In 1870, Azubah and Samuel resided in the Town of Montour, Schuyler County, New York. Their post office was Catherine, New York. They owned a farm which was valued at $13,000. Their personal estate was valued at $2,075. Their daughter Delia lived with them. They also had a housekeeper named Phebe Harvey. She was a 51 year old native of New York (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Montour, Schuyler County, New York, page 580, 29 July 1870). After Azubah's death, Samuel married Mrs. Anna Thurston on 22 March 1876, at Watkins, New York. The couple had one child. Aubah and Samuel were buried in Glenwood Cemetry, Town of Dix, Schuyler County, New York (Schuyler County, New York GenWeb). Children of Azubah Vaughn and Samuel W. Sackett:
2546. (i.) PHILO W. SACKETT5, was born 17 March 1850 and died 22 May 1871 in Hamilton, New York. He is buried in Glenwood Cemetry, Town of Dix, Schuyler County, New York (Schuyler County, New York GenWeb).
2771. (ii.) DELIA MARIA SACKETT5, was born 17 July 1855 in New York and died 1915 (Schuyler County, New York GenWeb). In 1870, she lived with her parents in the Town of Montour, Schuyler County, New York (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Montour, Schuyler County, New York, page 580, 29 July 1870). She married 25 October 1876, Henry S. Howard at Watkins, New York. The wedding was performed by by Rev. Wright. Henry was born 1854 and died 1940. Henry and Delia are buried in Glenwood Cemetry, Town of Dix, Schuyler County, New York (Schuyler County, New York GenWeb). Children of Delia Maria Sackett and Henry Howard:

211. (ii.) ERIE VAUGHN4, was born 18 October 1838 in New York and died 29 June 1927. In 1850, Erie lived with his parents on their farm in the Town of Hector, Tompkins county, New York. He attended school during the census year (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Hector, Tompkins County, New York, page 387, 30 July 1850). Erie married on 4 December 1861, Emeline Morris, sister of Isaac Morris, who married Erie's sister Ursula. Their wedding was announced in the Havana, New York Journal. Emeline was born 5 July 1840 and 11 June 1917. Erie appears on a list on men living in the Town of Hector, 61st Sub-District in 1863. His age was given as 24 and his occupation as farmer (Schuyler County New York GenWeb). In 1870, Erie and Emeline lived in the Town of Hector. Erie was a farmer, he owned a farm valued at $8000 and a personal estate valued at $1900. Augusta Dresser also resided in the household. She was a 25 year old domestic. Erie's household was listed as resding in dwelling 135, his father William Vaughn resided in dwelling 136 (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Hector, Schuyler County, New York, page 522, 9 June 1870). Erie and Emeline are buried in Hector Union Cemetery, Town of Hector, Schuyler County, New York. Child of Eric and Emeline Vaughn:
768. (i.) WILLIAM M. VAUGHN5, was born and died unknown. He does not appear as a resident of his parent's household in 1870 (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Hector, Schuyler County, New York, page 522, 9 June 1870). William married Janette Loomis.
212. (iii.) URSULA VAUGHN4, was born 21 April 1843 and died 29 November 1894. In 1850, Ursula lived with her parents on their farm in the Town of Hector, Tompkins county, New York. She and her brother Eric attended school during the census year (1850 United States Federal Census, Town of Hector, Tompkins County, New York, page 387, 30 July 1850). Ursula married on 4 July 1862, Isaac Morris, son of Ephraim and Anne C. Morris and the brother of Emeline Morris, who married Ursula's brother Erie. Isaac was born in 1863 and died in 1907. In 1870, Isaac and Ursula lived with Isaac's parents on their farm in the Town of Hector. Isaac and his father were farmers. Ursula and Anne Morris were keeping house. The family also had hired help and a boarder. The hired help was Permelia Irish and Alonzo Burke. Permelia was 33 years old and worked as a domestic servant. She was the sister of Sarah Irish Hovey. Sarah Hovey was the wife of Jonathan Hovey. His grandmother Sarah Ogden Snyder and Ursula's father were half-siblings. Alonzo Burke was 20 years old. He worked as a farm laborer. Mercy Halstey boarded with the family. She was 61 years old (1870 United States Federal Census, Town of Hector, Schuyler County, New York, page 528, 15 June 1870). After Ursula's death in 1894, Isaac married Frances E. Bodie as his second wife. She was born in 1863 and died in 1907. There was at least one child born during the second marriage. The baby was named Isaac E Morris. He was born 9 March 1900 and died 16 April 1900. Isaac, Ursula, Frances and baby Isaac are all buried in Hector Union Cemetery, Town of Hector, Schuyler County, New York.
