The Warren Journal printed the following notice on 30 September 1850:

DAVID READ
The Isaac R. Konkle of the notice was David's nephew, the son of his older sister, Mary Read Konkle. By 1860, the Reads had moved to Sussex County, New Jersey. The 1860 census indicates that David and Mary Read owned a farm in Stillwater Township. The farm was valued at $4,000; they also owned a personal estate valued at $2,350. Only three children lived in their household in 1860: Lydia, Rachel and William. Sarah was already married to David Dennis and lived in Stillwater Township. Margaret was also married, her husband was Isaac Smalley. Three of the Read children—Mary Catherine, John Ogden and Emma— had died before 1860.
