MARY KONKLE LODERICK5

538. MARY A. KONKLE5 (Isaac R. Konkle4, Mary Read3, John Read2, Joseph Read1), and her twin Martha, were born 30 November 1847 in Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Her twin died the same day. Mary lived a long and full life, she died in 1936 (Fretz 1908; Stillwater Cemetery). Mary appears on the 1850 and 1860 census as a resident of her parents household. According to the 1860 census she attended school (1850 United States Federal Census, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 494B, 9 August 1850; 1860 United States Federal Census, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 560B, 16 July 1860). Although her brother attended Blair Academy, Mary did not. She is not listed among the Blair students in an 1898 reunion booklet. Her brother Andrew is listed among the students (Anon 1898).

Mary married Samuel H. Loderick on 6 January 1870. He was born December 1838 in New Jersey. Although she married in 1870, Mary appeared on the 1870 census as a resident of her parents's household because the census year ran from 1 July 1869 to 30 June 1870 and she was a resident until her wedding (1870 United States Federal Census, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 148B, 2 August 1870; Fretz 1908). In October 1874, the Lodericks had their first child, a daughter named Annie. In 1880, Mary and Samuel lived with their daughter Annie on a farm in Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 191, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 283A, 1 June 1880). The Lodericks were members of the Johnsonburg Christian Church in Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County (Fretz 1908).

By 1900, the family had relocated to Morris County, New Jersey. According to the census they were the parents of two chlidren in 1900, both of whom were living: Annie, who was married to Fred Fredericks, and John, who was still at home. The Lodericks lived in a rented house at 238 High Street in the town of Madison, New Jersey. Samuel was employed as a farm laborer, although the couple did not live on a farm. The family took in boarders to supplement their income. Their boarder in 1900 was Clarkson Aiken, who was born in April 1835 in New Jersey, he was also a farm laborer. Mary had a live-in servant to assist her in running the house. She was Grace Lotten, born April 1887 in New Jersey (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 61, South Election District, Madison Borough, Morris County, New Jersey, sheet number 19A, 27 June 1900).

The family still resided in Madison Borough in 1908 (Fretz 1908). By 1910, they had moved to a rented house at 71 Woodland Road in the south election district of Madison Borough. Samuel was employed as a foreman for a private family. Samuel and Mary's daughter, Annie Loderick had been married 11 years and lived with her husband in Newark, New Jersey. However, their son John was still living at home. He was 26 and single. According to the census, Mary was the mother of two children, both of whom were living in 1910 (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 19, South Election District, Madison Borough, Morris County, New Jersey, sheet number 11B, 27 April 1910).

Samuel Loderick died in 1916 and was buried in the Konkle/Loderick family plot in Stillwater Cemetery in the village of Stillwater in Stillwater Township, Sussex County, New Jersey. I have been unable to find Mary on the 1920 census. However, in 1930 she lived with her son John and his family at 45 Chatham Road in Summit, New Jersey. The census lists her as "Mary A. Loderich" age 82 (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 20-152, Ward 1, Summit City, Union County, New Jersey, sheet number 20A, 29 April 1930). Mary lived until 1936. She was buried with Samuel in Stillwater Cemetery.

Samuel and Mary Loderick were the parents of 2 children, who were born between 1874 and 1884. They had 5 grandchildren who born between 1900 and 1925, at least 3 great-grandchildren and one second great-grandchild. Total identified descendants equals 11.
