ANNIE FLORENCE KONKLE WILSON5
541. ANNA FLORENCE "Flora" KONKLE5 (Isaac R. Konkle4, Mary Read3, John Read2, Joseph Read1), was born 7 December 1863 in Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey (Fretz 1908) and died unknown. Fretz (1908) gives her name as Florence. She appears on the 1870 census as Anna F, on the 1880 census as Annie F., on the 1900 census as Florence, and on the 1910 and 1920 census as Flora. Flora appears to have been her preferred name as an adult. She appears on the 1870 and 1880 census as a resident of her parents household. According to the 1880 census she attended school during the census year (1870 United States Federal Census, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 148B, 2 August 1870; 1880 United States Federal Census, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, pages 388D-389A, 4 June 1880). Although her brother attended Blair Academy, Flora did not. She is not listed among the Blair students in an 1898 reunion booklet. Her brother Andrew is listed among the students (Anon 1898).
Flora married on 26 January 1883, Theodore Wilson (Fretz 1908). Theodore was born 21 October 1856 and died 7 September 1926 (Ruether n.d.). The 1887 Warren County History and Directory lists Theodore Wilson, farmer, as a resident of Hardwick Township. His post office was Marksboro, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County (Weaver and Kern 1887). The 1900 census lists Theodore and Florence Wilson as residents of Hardwick Township. They lived on a farm, which they owned (but with a mortgage). Florence's parents were listed adjacent to the Wilsons of the census. The Wilsons had been married 16 years (an error on the part of the census, they had actually been married 17 years) and were the parents of two children, both of whom were living in 1900 (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 187, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 2B, 5 June 1900).
While the rest of her family was affiliated with the Christian Church, in 1908, Flora and Theodore were members of the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Blairstown (Fretz 1908). Mrs. Theo. Wilson is listed as a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Blairstown in 1916 (Burd 1916). In 1910, Theodore and Flora (as given on the census) lived on a farm in Hardwick Township. No occupation is given in the census for Theodore. Their daughter Myrtie lived with them, as did Flora's widowed mother, 90 year old Sarah Hankinson Konkle (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 129, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheets number 1A-1B, 15 April 1910). Sarah died later that year. In 1920, Theodore and Flora lived together on their farm in Hardwick Township. Both of their daughters had left the house. Theodore was still employed as a farmer (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 157, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheets number 2A, 9 January 1920). Theodore died in 1926 and was buried in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey (Reuther n.d.).
Theodore and Flora Wilson were the parents of 2 children, who were born between 1885 and 1897. They had at least 3 grandchildren, who were born between 1917 and 1923. Total identified descendants equals 5.
