This photograph was probably taken sometime between 1892 and 1893. Ethel, the little girl in the lower right corner, looks to be between 5 and 7 years of age. She was born in 1887. Walter, in the center of the top row, was married by 1893. The photo was probably taken shortly before Walter married. The children are, from left to right, top row: Sylvanis J. Read, Walter Wilson Read and Grace Read Smith; bottom row: Jay Clark Read, Arthur Eugene Read, and Ethel Harden Read Mitten Evans.

The resemblances of inidividuals in this photograph to the current generation are striking. My father bore a strong resemblance to Walter, who was his great uncle. My daughter and Ethel have similar faces (and feisty personalities). Ethel is Bridget's great-great-great aunt. I look alot like my great-great aunt Grace. And, my grandfather and his uncle Vanis (Sylvanis) had similar faces and build.

The back of the photo states that it was taken by the Ellisons, who where probably the Read's neighbors in Dorrancetown, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Note the house number, 358, which is the address given in the 1920 census. The house is a duplex which the family was renting. Bottom row, left to right: Grace Read, Mary Harden Read, Jacob Read.
