READ FAMILY CONNECTIONS
MARY "CATHERINE" TITMAN5
560. MARY "CATHERINE" TITMAN5 (Malinda Read4, Isaac Read, III3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 28 July 1853 in Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey (LDS Batch #C509751; Cedar Ridge Cemetery) and died 23 March 1937 (Cedar Ridge Cemetery). She grew up on her parents farm outside of Walnut Valley in Blairstown Township (1860 United States Federal Census Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 569; 1870 United States Federal Census Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 41B; Beer 1874). Catherine married on 4 November 1874, Wesley Linaberry, the son of Conrood Linaberry and Martha VanScoten and grandson of Daniel Vanscoten and Sarah Titus (Reuther n.d.). He was born 15 October 1850 in New Jersey and died 13 July 1914 (Cedar Ridge Cemetery). Wesley's first cousin, (877) Sarah Catherine Vanscoten5, was married to Catherine's brother, Read Titman. This made Read's children and Mary Catherine's children double cousins, they were first cousins through the Titman side of the family and second cousins through the Vanscoten side of the family. Sarah Catherine Vanscoten was also a cousin to Read and Mary Catherine Titman. They were third cousins. Her grandmother, Catherine Read Kinney, was a first cousin of Read and Catherine Titman's grandfather, Isaac Read, III.
In 1880, Catherine and Wesley lived in Knowlton Township with their two eldest children: George and Celia. The family had a hired hand named Ellsworth Ryman. He was 15 years old, a native of New Jersey. In addition to working for the Linaberry's, Ellsworth attended school during the census year (which ran 1 June 1879 through 31 May 1880). Neither George nor Celia Titman was old enough to attend school. The census gives their last name as "Linderbery" (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 201, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 449A, 8 June 1880). The Linaberrys still lived in Knowlton Township in 1906 when Catherine's mother's died (Obituary of Malinda Titman). The 1910 census places the family in the village of Delaware in Knowlton Township on the road leading toward Columbia. They owned a farm free and clear of all mortgages and liens. According to the census the Linaberrys had been married 36 years, they were the parents of five children, all of whom were living in 1910 (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 6A, 30 April 1910). Catherine lived with her children for awhile after Wesley died. In 1920, she lived with her daughter Celia Linabetty Rockafellow in Orange, Essex County, New Jersey (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 297, Ward 1, Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 6A, 13 January 1920). In 1930, Catherine lived alone in Columbia, Knowlton Township. She owned her home, which was valued at $2,500 (1930 United States Federal Census, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, Enumeration District 21-13, sheet 7B, 18 April 1930). Catherine and Wesley Linaberry are buried in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Jacksonburg, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their grave stones were field checked on 3 July 1999. There are three stones, a large family stone and smaller individual grave stones. These are inscribed as follows:

She was born circa 1874 in New Jersey and died unknown. The family lived on a farm outside of Hainesburg on the Delaware Road in Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey in 1910. They did not own the farm, they were renting it. In 1910, they had two children (none of their children had died before the census. George and Laura's neighbors in 1910 were Irvin and Hannah Snyder (dwelling 69, the Linaberrys were in dwelling 68). The Snyder's daughter Ada would marry Harry C. Read5 (John C. Read4, Samuel D. Read3, Samuel Read2, Joseph Read1), who was a third cousin once removed to both George and Laura. On the other side of the Linaberrys was the family of Charles O. Allen (dwelling 67). Charles's sister, Beatrice Allen would marry Winfield Read 5 (Soren Wade Read4, Isaac Read, Jr.3, Isaac Read, Sr.2, Joseph Read1), who was also a third cousin once removed to both George and Laura (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 4A, 27 April 1910). By 1920, the Linaberrys had moved across the Delaware River to Upper Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. They had bought a farm on the Delaware River Road. In 1920, the farm had a mortgage on it. The couple's daughter Margaret appears to have died, she was not a resident of the household. Their son David had been born since the last census. He was born in September 1911 in New Jersey. Their move to Pennsylvania probably took place after is birth. He and their oldest daughter Florence also lived on the farm.
