BRACKLEY TITMAN5

565. BRACKLEY S. TITMAN5 (Malinda Read4, Isaac Read, III3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 22 March 1864 in Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey (LDS Batch #C509751) and died unknown. He grew up on his parents farm outside of Walnut Valley in Blairstown Township (1870 United States Federal Census Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 41B; 1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 191, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 290C; Beers 1874). Brackley married in 1885, Addie E. Freeman, the daughter of Alexander H. Freeman and Sarah Ann Vought. She was born 1 October 1866 in New Jersey. The couple lived in Orange, New Jersey in 1906 when Brackley's mother died (obituary of Malinda Titman). Their residence is given as 5 Fairmount Ave, West Orange New Jersey in Fretz's 1908 genealogy of the descendants of Andrew Newbaker. Fretz gave Brackley's occupation as carpenter. He listed their religious affiliation as Baptist. Brackley and Addie resided in East Orange in 1930. Brackley (given as Blockley in the 1930 census) and Addie lived at 118 16th Street. Two of their children—Sadie and Everett—still lived at home. Brackley was a carpenter, but he was unemployed at the time the census was taken. Addie did not work outside the home. The couple owned their home, which was valued at $5,000. They also owned a radio (1930 United Sates Federal Census, Enumeration District 7-427, East Orange City, 5th Ward, 1st District, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 12A, 5-12 April 1930).

Brackley and Addie Titman had 5 children born betweeen 1887 and 1909. They had at least 2 grandchildren born between 1916 and 1921. Total identified descendants equals 7.

CHILDREN OF BRACKLEY AND ADDIE TITMAN

2592. (i.) SADIE EMMA TITMAN6, was born 31 May 1886 in New Jersey and died October 1983 (Fretz 1908; Lorenz n.d.; Smith 1962; Social Security Death Index). She was single in 1930 and lived at home with her parents at 118 16th Street in East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey. Sadie was employed as a secretary (1930 United Sates Federal Census, Enumeration District 7-427, East Orange City, 5th Ward, 1st District, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 12A, 5-12 April 1930). She appeared in Smith's 1962, Yards Creek Folk as "Miss Sadie Titman" of East Orange. It is assumed that she never married. Her last residence was Parsippany, Morris County, New Jersey (Social Security Death Index).

2593. (ii.) Dr. RUSSELL EDWARD TITMAN6, was born circa 1890 in East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey and died probably before 1962 (Fretz 1908; Lorenz n.d.; Smith 1962). He married Florence (Last Name Unknown). She was born in New Jersey circa 1892. Her mother was a native of New Jersey, while her father was from Germany. In 1920, the couple lived with their young son at 275 Dodd Street in the 1st Election District of East Orange. They owned the home, but it was mortgaged. Russell was a surgeon. (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 27, East Orange, 1st Election District, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 3A, 9 January 1920). They were still living on Dodd Street in 1930. The census gives the street number as 285, but this may reflect a renumbering of the street and not an actual move. The couple had an additional child, a daughter named Evelyn. Jennie Howard lived with the family. She was single and 62 years old. According to the census she was an aunt. It is probable that she was related to the family through Florence and not Russell. Russell was still a physican in 1930 and had his own general practice (1930 United Sates Federal Census, Enumeration District 7-427, East Orange City, 1st Ward, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 4B, 8 April 1930). Russell is not listed as a living descendant in Smith's 1962, Yards Creek Folk, hence he is assumed to have died before 1962. Children of Russell and Florence Titman:

2629. (i.) RAYMOND TITMAN7, was born circa 1916 in East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey and died unknown. In 1920, Raymond lived with his parents at 275 Dodd Street in East Orange. He and his family lived at 285 Dodd Street in 1930. Raymond and his sister Evelyn attended school in 1930(1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 27, East Orange, 1st Election District, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 3A, 9 January 1920; 1930 United Sates Federal Census, Enumeration District 7-427, East Orange City, 1st Ward, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 4B, 8 April 1930). Raymond is listed as a resident of Red Bank, New Jersey in Smith's 1962, Yards Creek Folk.

2630. (ii.) EVELYN TITMAN7, was born circa 1921 in East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey and died unknown. In 1930, she lived with her parents at 285 Dodd Street in East Orange and attended school (1930 United Sates Federal Census, Enumeration District 7-427, East Orange City, 1st Ward, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 4B, 8 April 1930). She married Unknown Berry. Evelyn Titman Berry is listed as a resident of Oceanport, New Jersey in Smith's 1962, Yards Creek Folk.

2594. (iii.) HAROLD READ TITMAN6, was born 1 June 1900 in New Jersey and died 13 November 1970 in Broward County, Florida (Florida Death Index; Fretz 1908; Lorenz n.d.; Social Security Death Index; Smith 1962). He married circa 1928, Unknown. Harold resided in East Orange, Essex county, New Jersey in 1930. According to the census he was married, but his wife does not appear to have been residing with him. Harold's home appears to have been either a duploex, or a building with two apartments. There were two households resident in the building, that of Harold R. Titman (with a monthly rent of $90) and that of Alexander Novak (with a monthly rent of $70). The census was hard to read, but it looks like the address was 111 Halstead Street. Harold Titman worked as a manager in advertisting. He was employed when the census was taken (1930 United Sates Federal Census, Enumeration District 7-377, East Orange City, 2nd Ward, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 9A, 29 April 1930). Raymond lived in Red Bank, New Jersey in about 1962 (Smith 1962). His final residence was Pompano Beach, Broward County, Florida.

2595. (iv.) MILDRED "HAZEL" TITMAN6, was born before 1908 and died unknown (Fretz 1908; Lorenz n.d.; Smith 1962). She was not a resident of her parents household in 1930 (1930 United Sates Federal Census, Enumeration District 7-427, East Orange City, 5th Ward, 1st District, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 12A, 5-12 April 1930). She married Unknown Reed and resided in Hackettstown, Warren County, New Jersey in about 1962 (Smith 1962). Child of Hazel Titman Reed:

2951. (i.) DONALD REED7, (Smith 1962).

2949. (v.) RAYMOND TITMAN6, was born and died before 1908 (Fretz 1908).

He was single in 1930 and lived at home with his parents at 118 16th Street in East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey. Everitt was employed as an inspector in a factory (1930 United Sates Federal Census, Enumeration District 7-427, East Orange City, 5th Ward, 1st District, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 12A, 5-12 April 1930). He was still a resident of East Orange in about 1962 (Smith 1962). His last known residence was Parsippany, Morris County, New Jersey. His sister Sadie also reside in Pasippany in the late 1970s to early 1980s (Social Security Death Index).
