MARILLA TITMAN5 (Malinda Read4, Isaac Read, III3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born August 1867 and died 1954 (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 182, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 13B, 27 June 1900; Cedar Ridge Cemetery; Lorenz n.d.). She grew up on her parents farm outside of Walnut Valley in Blairstown Township (1870 United States Federal Census Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 41B; 1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 191, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 290C; Beers 1874). Marilla married circa 1885, Jabez S. Ervine, the son of John and Ann Ervine. He was born 17 January 1860 in Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey (LDS Batch #C509861) and died in 1955 (Cedar Ridge Cemetery). Marilla and Jabez lived in Blairstown Township in 1900. The couple owned their farm, but it was mortgaged. According to the census, Marilla was the mother of two children, both of whom were dead by 1900 (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 182, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 13B, 27 June 1900). The 1906 obituary for Marilla's mother places the couple in Walnut Valley, New Jersey (obituary of Malinda Titman). "Mrs. Jabez Ervine" was a member of the Walnut Valley Methodist Episcopal Church in 1916 (Burd 1916). In 1920, Jabez and Marilla still resided in Blairstown. They owned their farm, free and clear of mortgages and liens. Jabez was a poultry farmer (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 151, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 8B, 30 January 1920). The 1930 census also places Jabez and Marilla in Blairstown Township. The couple ran a poultry farm together. They owned the farm, which was valued at $5,000. The couple also owned a radio. The Ervines lived in dwelling number 267. Marilla's brother Read Titman lived in dwelling 271 (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 21-4, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 11A, 15 April 1930). Jabez and Marilla are buried with their two sons in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their family plot consists of a large stone labeled Ervine and four smaller head stones. These were field checked 3 July 1999 and are inscribed:

Marilla Titman and Jabez Ervine had 2 children born betweeen 1886 and 1888. Total descendants equals 2.

1238. (i.) LEROY ERVINE6, was born 1886 and died 1891. He is buried in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey. His grave stone was checked 3 July 1999, see above for transcript of inscription.
