GEORGE "ALBERT" READ5
713. . GEORGE "ALBERT" READ5 ( Ira C. Read4, Martin Freese Read3, Samuel Read2, Joseph Read1) was born June 1876 in New Jersey, probably in Hope Township, Warren County and died 1959. Albert first appears on the census in 1880. He was four years old and lived with his parents and sister Olivia and Minnie in Hope Township, Warren County. He was still too young to attend school (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 199, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 413D, 4 June 1880).
Albert married circa 1898, Eleanor M. Unknown. She was born November 1878, in New Jersey and died 1956. In 1900, the census lists "George A. and Eleanor M." as residents Albert's parent's household (Ira C. and Margaret Read). Albert and Elenor had one son, one year old William. Albert was a farm laborer, his father was listed as a farmer (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 189, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 4B, 7 June 1900). In 1910, George and Eleanor lived on the Blairstown Road in Hope Township, Warren County. They were renting their farm. The census states that they had been married 12 years and had one child, their son William. The Reads lived in dwelling number 185 and were family number 202. Next to them on the census was the household of William C. and Emma (Read) Raub (dwelling 184, family 201) (1910 United States Census, Enumeration District 131, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 12A, 3 May 1910, his name is given as "George A. Read"). Emma Read Raub4 was the daughter of Isaac S. Read3 (Samuel Read2, Joseph Read1), she was Albert's second cousin once removed.
Albert and Elanor had another son almost six months after the census was enumerated. Herman C. Read was born in October of 1910. By 1920, Albert and Eleanor owned their farm in Hope Township, but it was mortgaged. Their son William had married and left home. Their son Herman was nine year old and still lived at home. He was also in school (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 159, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 5B, 21 January 1920). Albert and Eleanor still lived in Hope Township in 1930. They owned their farm, which was located on the Hope/Blairstown Road. The family owned a radio. None of their children resided in their household. Albert and Eleanor lived in dwelling 78 and were family number 81. They were still neighbors of the Raub family. William C. and Emma (Read) Raub had both died by 1930, but their unmarried daughters, Sally and Rachel Raub, lived in their childhood home (1930 United States Federal Census, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, enumeration district 21-11, sheet 3B, 15 April 1930).
Eleanor died in 1956, George died a few years later in 1959. They were buried in St. Johns of Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, a.k.a. "Old Moravian," which is located in Hope, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their plot is adjacent to that of their son William Davis Read and his wife Charlotte Ribble Devoe.
