She appears on the 1860 census as a one year old child 1860 United States Federal Census, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 8, 28 June 1860). In 1870, she lived at home with her parents in Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey. She attended school during the year (1870 United States Federal Census, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 181A, 15 August 1870). Ann Eliza married circa 1882, her second cousin once removed, (2406.) George Cool5 (Leah Lewis4, Rebecca Newman3, Azuba Read2, Joseph Read1), the son of Abram Cool and Leah N. Lewis. He was born 1852 in New Jersey and died 1912. In 1910, George and Ann lived on a farm which they owned in Hope Township on the Bridgeville Road. George was a famer. The couple had been married 28 years in 1910, they had never had any children (1910 United States Census, Enumeration District 131, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 15A, 9 May 1910). George and Annie are buried in St. Johns of Hope Methodist Church yard, Hope, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey (LDS Disc #2).
Eleanor Read was the eighth child and third (and final) daughter of David Read and Anna Middlesworth. She was known as Ellen to her family. Ellen was born born 17 August 1823 in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey (Kern 1938; Mt Hermon Methodist Church Cemetery, also known as Green's Chapel Cemetery). She appers as a minor child in a petition presented to the Orphans Court during the June 1832 Term. The petition was presented by her brother-in-law, John Cummins, Sr. It asked the court to appoint a committee to divide the real estate of Ellen's late father, David Read of Hope, who had died intestate. The court ordered David's 160 acre farm divided into six equal parts between Ellen and her five surviving brothers and sisters: Isaac, Joseph, Sally, and Jackson Read and Lavina Cummins (Warren County Surrogate Court Records, hereinafter WCSCR, Orphans Court Minutes, Book 1, page 236).
In 1840, Ellen lived with her widowed mother Ann Read in Knowlton Township. Ellen's sister Sally was also living in the household, as well as a young man between the ages of 15 and 20 and two young boys under the age of 5 (1840 United States Federal Census, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 363). Less than a year after the census was taken, Sally was married on 20 February 1841 to Anthony J. Osmun (Warren County Marriages). Ellen married Charles Flumerfelt on 13 July 1846. He was the son of George Flumerfelt and Margaret Henry. Charles was born 17 January 1816 (LDS Disc #2).
Charles and Ellen's first daughter, Emily, was born in 1848 (LDS Disc #2; Mt Hermon Methodist Church Yard). The family appears on the 1850 United States Federal Census as residents of Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey. However, Emily had died on 7 February 1849. Only one of their children was living in 1850. Charles was listed as a farmer with real estate valued at $4,000. The family was visited on 12 September 1850. They were the 728th dwelling and 763rd family visited. The family in 1850 was comprised of:

Harriet was born in August 1850 according to the data from the Latter Day Saints (Disc #2). However, the census gives her age as 8 months. At least three more children were born after the 1850 census was taken: John in December 1851, Charles in July 1856, and Ann Eliza in September 1858 (Kern 1938; LDS Disc #2; Mt Hermon Cemetery). In 1860, the Flumerfelts lived in Hope Tonwship. They owned a farm which was valued at $10,000. The family held a personal estate valued at $2,000. There were three children living in the household: Harriet, John and Annie. Baby Charles had died as an infant, at the age of 11 months old. He was buried in Green's Chapel Cemetery, now known as the Mount Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery (Mt Hermon Cemetery). The household also included two members of the Miller family. Twenty year old Geuset Miller was a farm laborer and 21 year old Euphemia Miller was a domestic servant. Geuset owned a personal estate valued at $250, while Euphemia's personal estate was valued at $100. Geuset was also attending school. The census taker visited the family on 28 June 1860. Table 2 summarizes the members of the household:

By 1870, the Flumerfelt's owned a farm vauled at $5,000 and had a personal estate valued at $1,750. Their household was enumerated by the census taker on 15 August 1870. It was the 199th dwelling visited and the 208th family listed in the census. Charles and Ellen Flumerfelt appear to have lived next-door to Ellen's first cousin once removed, Samuel Read4 (Aaron Read3, Samuel Read2, Joseph Read1). Samuel Read's household was dwelling 198 and family 207.

The Flumerfelt's eldest surviving daughter, Harriet Flumerfelt Treat, lived close to her parents in 1870. She and her family were located in dwelling 205, while Charles and Eleanor were in dwelling 199. Harriet had recently married Sylvester Treat, the couple did not yet have children of their own. Sylvester's brother William L. Treat (age 16) lived with the couple and worked as a farm laborer (he is probably the Lucus Treat of the 1850 census, see above under seperate listing for Harriet). Sylvester owned real estate valued at $8,750 and had a personal estate valued at $2,100. The Treat household in 1870 was comprised of the following members:

Eleanor Read Flumerfelt died on 20 August 1879 and was buried in the church yard of Green's Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church. The church is now known as Mount Hermon United Methodist Church. The following year, John H. Angle came to the Flumerfelt household and listed the family in the census. They lived in Enumeration District 199, Hope Township in Warren County, New Jersey. Charles's occupation was listed as "house carpenter," John C. Flumerfelt was listed as a "farmer," while Anna's was given as "keeping house" and Mary as "at home." However, there is a problem with the census. It incorrectly lists John's wife as Anna E. Flumerfelt. Anna was his sister. His wife, Mary Flumerfelt is incorrectly listed as Charles Flumerfelt's daughter. The ages are also wrong for the two women, Mary should be 30 and Anna E. should be 22. Given the mix-up it is probable that Mary's occupation should be "keeping house" and Anna's should be "at home." The information, as given in the census, is summarized in table 4.

Charles and Ellen's daughter Harriet Flumerfelt Treat also lived in Hope Township in 1880. She and her husband Sylvester Treat are listed in the census between her second cousin Ira C. Read4 (Martin F. Read3, Samuel Read2, Joseph Read1)and her uncle Joseph M. Read3 (David Read2, Joseph Read1). Sylvester Treat was a farmer. Harriet's occupation is given as "keeping house." The Treat household in 1880 consisted of Sylvester and Harriet, two of their sons, and a hired boy named Walter Gross (table 5). Neither of the Treat children attended school in 1880. Both of them were too young to start school that year (the census year ran from 1 June 1879 to 31 May 1880).
