778. CHARLES IRVIN OSMUN4 (Sarah Ann Read3. David Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 9 September 1857 in Hope Township, Warren County New Jersey and died 14 January 1937 (Ramseyburg Cemetery). In 1860, Charles lived with his parents on the family farm in Hope Township (1860 United States Federal Census, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey). His father died in 1867, when Charles was about 10 years old. He lived with his widowed mother in 1870 in Hope Township and attended school (1870 United States Federal Census, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 177A, 4 August 1870).

Charles married in about 1879, Sarah C. Heitzman. , the daughter of Asa and Emeline Heitsman (or Heitzman). She was born February 1861 in New Jersey and died 1946 (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 191, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New jersey, Sheets 6A-B, 25 June 1900; Ramseyburg Cemetery). Sarah's older sister Phebe married Charles's older brother Alva. In 1880, the couple lived on a farm on Buttzville Avenue in Oxford Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their houseohld was a young household. Charles was 22 and Sarah was 19. They had been maried a short while and did not yet have chldren. They did have a hired hand, 18 year old Elmer Shannon, and a domestic servant, 17 year old Eliza Fitzgerald (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 205, Oxford Township, Warren County, New Jersey, 12 June 1880, pages 545D and 546A. By 1910, the family lived in Knowlton Township, Warren County. According to the census Charles and Sarah had been married for 20 years and were the parents of 7 children, all of whom were still living. Only five of these children still lived at home: Luther, Clayton, Orton, Charles and Harold.The three older boys were in school. Charles and Harold were still at home (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 191, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New jersey, Sheets 6A-B, 25 June 1900).

By 1910, Charles and Sarah had four of their seven children living at home: Clayton, Orton, Charles and Harold. Both Luther and Emma had married by 1910. Their daughter Emma LaRue, her husband James and son Cecil were listed as living on the farm adjacent to the Osmun farm. Both the LaRue farm and the Osmun farm were on the Belvidere Road. Charles and Sarah owned their farm free and clear of all mortgages. Charles was a general farmer. According to the census, all seven of their children were living (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, Sheet 4B, 28 April 1910).

In 1930, Charles and Sarah lived on RD2 outside of Delaware in Knowlton Township. They owned a farm valued at $6000. Their widowed son Clayton and his three chlidren lived with them. Their near neighbors included (1383) E. Cline6 and (1428) Helen (Gibbs) Allen7. Cline's grandmother, Mary Catherine Read Brinkruff, was Charles's second cousin. Clines's sister Ada Allen was married to Charles's youngest son, Harold Osmun. (1385) Verne Clifford6 also lived nearby Verne was Charles's second cousin twice removed (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 21-13, Knowlton Township, Warrren County, New Jersey, sheet 3B, 8 & 9 April 1930). Charles and Sarah are buried in Ramseyburg Cemetery, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their graves were field checked on 15 April 2005. Their son Orton and his wife Margaret are also buried in the same plot.

3423. (i.) EMMA OSMUN5, was born 1881 in New Jersey and died 1942. She married circa 1899, James LaRue. He was born 1876 in New Jersey and died 1966 (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 4B, 28 April 1910; Gentry 2001; Ramseyburg Cemetery). James and Emma are buried in Ramseyburg Cemetery, Knowlton Township, Warren Conty, New Jersey. Their graves were field checked on 15 April 2005.

3422. (ii.) LUTHER OSMUN5, was born August 1883 in New Jersey, probably in Knowlton Township, Warren County and died 1964. Luther married in late 1907 or early 1908, Margaretta "Retta" Higgins, the daughter of Owen T. and Mary L. Higgins. Retta was born 1877 in New York and died in 1964 (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 3A, 26 April 1910; Ramseyburg Cemetery).Luther and Retta both died in 1964. They are buried in Ramseyburg Cemetery, Delaware, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their graves were field checked on 15 April 2005.

2031. (iv.) CLAYTON C. OSMUN5, was born May 1886 in New Jersey, died 31 October 1935, age 49 years old (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 191, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, Sheets 6A-B, 25 June 1900; Blairstown Press, 7 November 1935; Ramseyburg Cemetery). He married in 1910, Jessie Maybird. She was born 1892 in New Jersey and died 1923 (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 161, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, Sheet 9A, 20 January 1920; Ramseyburg Cemetery). Clayton and Jessie are buried in Ramseyburg Cemetery, Ramseyburg, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their graves were field checked 15 April 2005.

2424. (v.) ORTON R. OSMUN5, was born September 1890 and died 1959 (Ramseyburg Cemtery). Orton married in late 1910 or early 1911, Edith M. (Last Name unknown). She was born circa 1893 in New Jersey (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 161, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, Sheet 9A, 20 January 1920). His marriage appears to have ended in divorce after 1930. Orton married second, Margaret B. (Last Name Unknown). She was born 9 May 1899 and died November 1984 (Ramseyburg Cemetery; Social Security Death Index). Orton and Margaret are buried with his parents in Ramseyburg Cemetery, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Their graves were field checked 15 April 2005.

3425. (vi.) CHARLES IRVIN OSMUN, Jr.5, was born September 1892 in New Jersey and died unknown. Charles appears on the 1900 United States census as a 7 year old. He and his younger brother Harold were not in school in 1900, although their older brothers Luther, Clayton and Orton all attended school (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 191, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, Sheets 6A-B, 25 June 1900). Charles I. Osmun lived with his parents in 1910. The Osmuns lived on a farm in Delaware, Knowlton Township. Charles was not in school, nor does the 1910 census list an occupation for him, although he probably worked on the family farm (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 133, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, Sheet 4B, 28 April 1910).

2109. (vi.) HAROLD D. OSMUN5, was born April 1898 in New Jersey, and died 1954 (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 191, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, Sheets 6A-B, 25 June 1900; Cedar Ridge Cemetery). Harold married circa 1917, his second cousin once removed, Ada D. Allen6, the daughter of Edwin Mackey Allen and Jennie C. Brinkruff5 (Mary Catherine Read4, Samuel Cooke Read3, Aaron Read, I2, Joseph Read1). She was born 22 June 1897 and died 16 July 1993 (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 21-13, Knowlton Township, Warrren County, New Jersey, sheet 3B, 8 & 9 April 1930Allen 2001; Ramseyburg Cemetery; Social Security Death Index). This marriage ended in divorce after 1930 (Allen 2001). After Harold and Ada were divorced, Harold married Marion D. Allen. She was born 4 January 1909 and died July 1989 (Cedar Ridge Cemetery; Social Security Death Index); Harold and Marion are buried in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Jacksonburg, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey Their grave was field checked on 10 October 2004. Ada is buried with her parents in Ramseyburg Cemetery, Delaware, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Her grave was field checked on 15 April 2005.

3424. (vii.) UNKNOWN OSMUN5, was born between (estimated) 1881 and 1886. The 1900 census states that Charles and Sarah had 7 children, all of whom were living in 1900 (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 191, Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey, Sheets 6A-B, 25 June 1900).
