HIRAM WILLIAMSON DAVIS4, (Ann Read Davis3, Samuel Read, Esq.2, Joseph Read1), was born 9 February 1829, probably in Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey and died 22 August 1876 (Kern 1938). According to the information given by his son Wiiliam in the 1920 Census, Hiram was born in Pennsylvania. He married Emma Louise Sandford, (Kern 1938). Children of Hiram Davis and Emma Sandford:

2855. (i.) MARK W. DAVIS6, was born circa 1853 in New Jersey, probably in Harrison, Hudson County and died after 1920. He was probably named after his paternal grandfather, who had died in 1850. In 1870, Mark lived with his parents in Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey. He was 17 years old and was no longer in school (1870 United States Federal Census, Harrison City, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 368B, 11 July 1870). Mark still lived at home in 1880, as did all his sisters and brother. He worked as a state dectective (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 56, 4th Ward, Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 246C, 12 June 1880). By 1891, Mark was the business manger for the East Newark Land Company. The East Newark Land Company was headquartered at 700 Harrison Avenue, this address was also the family home (Hobrook 1891). Mark married after 1880, Harriet (Last Name Unknown). She was born circa 1864 in New York and died unknown. In 1920, Mark and Harriet lived at 74 North 7th Street in Newark. Mark was retired (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 216, 11th Ward, 4th Election District, Newark, Essex, New Jersey, sheet 16B, 16 January 1920).

2856. (ii.) EMMA DAVIS6, was born circa 1856 in New Jersey and died unknown. She lived with her parents in 1870 in Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey (1870 United States Federal Census, Harrison City, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 368B, 11 July 1870). Emma married between 1870 and 1880, Unknown Bunnell. He died before 1880 and Emma returned home to live with her parents (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 56, 4th Ward, Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 246C, 12 June 1880).

920. (iii.) WILLIAM J. DAVIS5, was born circa 1858 in New Jersey, probably in Harrison, Hudson County and died after 1930. He lived with his parents in 1870 in Harrison (1870 United States Federal Census, Harrison City, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 368B, 11 July 1870). William still lived at home in 1880, he was employed as a lawyer (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 56, 4th Ward, Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 246C, 12 June 1880). By 1891, he was the Counselor at law for the family business, the East Newark Land Company. He lived at 700 Harrison Ave, in Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey. This was also the location of the family home (Holbrook 1891). He was Counselor for the Harrison and Kearny Building and Loan Association, which was organized on 19 May 1886. The building association met on the second Tueday of each month in the Riordan Building at 315 Harrison Avenue. other officers included George A. Bond, the president, of N. Third St. in Kearny, NewJersey; John A. Scanell, vice president, 56 S. Fifth St., in Harrison; Anthony O'Malley, secretary, 511 N. Fourth; and Thomas E. Gleeson, treasurer, Central Ave. Kearny (Holboorke, 1894). Kern (1938) gave two addresses for the family one at 15 Exchange Place, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey and the other at 700 Harrison Ave., Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey. The latter had been the family address since at least 1870, the former was possibly William's office. In 1920,William still lived at 700 Harrison Avenue. He shared the home with his sisters Mary Davis and Annie Blake, and with Annie's husband George Blakes. Two of his elderly female cousins also lived in the household. One was Lizza Hays, who was 68 years old. The other's name was not legible. Neither woman was married. These cousins were probably from his mother's side of the family, as his paternal cousins were named "Cross." William was still employed as a counselor. The family had four servants. Three of them were born in Viginia. They were Lucian Blakely (age 34), Nettie Swift (age 42) and Mamie Swift (age 17). All three were African Americans. The fourth servant was a German immigrant named Eva Aumbach (age 47) (1920 united States Federal Census, Enumeration District 61, Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey, sheet number 21B, 17 February 1920). He still lived with his sister Annie Blake and her husband George in 1930. His neice Louise Blake still lived in the household. His sister Mary was no longer a resident and may have died by 1930. His 15 year old great-neice Josephine Blake (granddaughter of his sister Annie) also lived in the household. A cousin, Elizabeth Douglas (who was a 78 year old widow) also lived with William. William was still employed as a lawyer (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 9-253, Ward 4, Harrison Town, Hudson County, New Jersey). William J. Davis never married.

2857. (iv.) MARY C. DAVIS6, was born circa 1860 in New Jersey, probably in Harrison, Hudson County and died after 1920. She lived with her parents in 1870 in Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey (1870 United States Federal Census, Harrison City, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 368B, 11 July 1870). Mary still lived at home in 1880 (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 56, 4th Ward, Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 246C, 12 June 1880). By 1920, Mary was still single. She lived with her brother William J. Davis and her sister Annie Blake and her husband George in the family home at 700 Harrison Avenue. She was not employed (1920 united States Federal Census, Enumeration District 61, Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey, sheet number 21B, 17 February 1920).

2858. (v.) IRENA DAVIS6, and her twin Annie were born circa 1863 in New Jersey. Irena died unknown. She lived with her parents in 1870 in Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey (1870 United States Federal Census, Harrison City, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 368B, 11 July 1870). Irena still lived at home in 1880 (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 56, 4th Ward, Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 246C, 12 June 1880).

921. (vi.) ANNIE E. DAVIS5, and her twin Irena were born circa 1863 in New Jersey, probably in Harrison, Hudson County. Annie died after 1930. She lived with her parents in 1870 in Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey (1870 United States Federal Census, Harrison City, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 368B, 11 July 1870). Annie still lived at home in 1880 and attended school (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 56, 4th Ward, Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey, page 246C, 12 June 1880). She married after 1880, George Blake (Kern 1938). He was born circa 1853 in New Jersey. In 1920, Annie and George lived with Annie's brother William J. Davis and her sister Mary C. Davis in the family home at 700 Harrison Ave, Harrison, New Jersey. George was employed as a broker (1920 united States Federal Census, Enumeration District 61, Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey, sheet number 21B, 17 February 1920). 1343. (i.)CLARENCE BLAKE6, was born unknown in New Jersey. Clarence married May Ashley. She was born in New York (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 9-253, Ward 4, Harrison Town, Hudson County, New Jersey; Kern 1938). Child of Clarence Blake and May Ashley:

1562. (i.) JOSEPHINE BLAKE7 was born circa 1915 in New Jersey. In 1930, she lived with her paternal grandparents, her aunt Louise Blake and her great Uncle William J. Davis in the family home at 700 Harrison Ave. in Harrison. According to the census, she attended school during the census year (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 9-253, Ward 4, Harrison Town, Hudson County, New Jersey; Kern 1938).

1344. (ii.) HAROLD BLAKE6, married (First Name Unknown) Rittenhouse (Kern 1938).

1345. (iii.) EMMA "LOUISE" BLAKE6 was born circa 1888 in New Jersey and died unknown. In 1920, she lived with her parents and her Uncle Wililam J. Davis and Aunt Mary C. Davis in the Davis family home at 700 Harrison Ave. in Harrison, New Jersey. She was not employed (1920 united States Federal Census, Enumeration District 61, Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey, sheet number 21B, 17 February 1920; Kern 1938)
