David Read Dennis was the eldest child of David Wilson Dennis and Sarah Elizabeth Read. He was born in 1855 in New Jersey and died 12 July 1891, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Acccording to one researcher he drown in the Atlantic Ocean. David married Virginia R. Shreakgast, the daughter of Daniel B. Shreakgast and Evaline Stewart. She was born December 1859 in Sussex County, New Jersey. She remarried in 1896. Her second husband was Abram "Atwood" Garis. Virginia died sometime after 1930. She is not buried with David. David is buried in the Dennis family plot in Stillwater Cemetery in the village of Stillwater, Stillwater Township, Sussex County, New Jeresey. His stone is set flush to the ground and is directly behind the monument for his sister Flora L. Dennis Van Sickle and her husband Albert.
