Dr. FRANK WELLINGTON DENNIS5

870. FRANK WELLINGTON DENNIS5 (Sarah Elizabeth Read4, David Read3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 30 July 1857 in Stillwater Township, Sussex County, New Jersey and died 1927. His birth is listed in the township records (LDS Batch #C509541; Pascal 1998; Van Buren 2004). In 1860, Frank lived with his parents and older brother David in Stillwater Township. The census gives his age as two (1860 United States Federal Census, Stillwater Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, page 290, 2 August 1860). The 1870 census also places him in his parents home in Stillwater. He was the second eldest of the six surviving children of David and Sarah Elizabeth Dennis. The census gives his age as 12 and states that he was attending school (1870 United States Federal Census, Stillwater Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, pages 204-205, 5 July 1870, Post Office Stillwater).

I was unable to locate Frank on the 1880 census and suspect that he may have been in school. He became a physician after graduating and settled in Orange County, New York. Frank married Mary Wisner, on 23 June 1887 in Unionville, Minisink Township, Orange County (Crockett 2005; Crosswell 2004; Keefus 2001; LDS Compact Disc #7, Pin #778894; Stoneman 2004). She was born April 1862 in New York state and was the daughter of Gabriel Wisner and Harriet Elston. By 1900, the couple owned a house in the village of Unionville. They had one child, their eight year old daughter Edna, who was in school. Frank was a physician in the village. The family had a male servant, 64 year old Uriah Hall (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 26, Unionville Village, Minisink Township, Orange County, New York, sheet 12B, 21 June 1900).

Between 1900 and 1910, Frank and Mary left Unionville and settled in the city of Newburgh in Orange County. In 1910, they lived in a rented house at 26 West Street in Newburgh. Frank was still a practicing physician. Edna, who was 17 years old, was still in school (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 64, Ward 6, Third District, City of Newburgh, Orange County, New York, sheet 6A, 26 April 1910). By 1920, Frank and Mary had purchased a home at 17 Liberty Street in Newburgh. Frank was a physican specializing in medicine and surgical aspects of the profession. The couple's daughter Edna still lived at home. She was employed as a high school teacher (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 140, 1st Ward, City of Newburgh, Orange County, New York, sheet 2B, 3 January1920).

Frank died in 1927. Mary moved to Brooklyn, Kings County, New York with Edna, where Edna continued to work as a high school teacher. Mary and Edna rented an apartment or rooms from George Corbett at 982 75th Street in Brooklyn. Corbett was a 54 year old widower with a 9 year old daughter named Charlotte. He owned the dwelling (which was valued at $17,000) and rented a part of it to the Dennis women for $90 a month. Both households had a radio. Corbett worked as the head inspector for the City water department (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 24-1155, Block D, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, sheet 18B, 14 April 1930). Mary died 15 April 1941 in Flushing, Queens County, New York (Van Buren 2004).

Frank Wellington Dennis and Mary Wisner had 1 daughter, named Edna, who was born in 1892. Edna never married. Total descendants equals 1.
