FREDERICK SQUIRE "FRED" KINNEY5

897. FREDERICK SQUIRE "FRED" KINNEY,5(Frederick Marshall Kinney 4, Catherine Read Kinney3, Aaron Read2, Joseph Read1) was born 14 August 1880, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania (LDS Batch# 8514203; Scott-Fritzen 1998) and died 22 November 1966 in Lathrop, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania (Scott-Fritzen 1998). When the 1880 census was ennumerated, Fred Kinney was listed as a one month old infant residing in his parents's household in Brooklyn Township. His grandmother Squires also lived in the household (1880 United States Federal Census, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, page 67D). Fred married Maude Edna Ainey, on 3 February 1901. She was the daughter of Edward Ainey and Euphemia Fame (?). Maude was born 26 July 1881 in Brooklyn Township and died 20 March 1965 in Brooklyn Township (Scott-Fritzen 1998). The birth date 1882 is carved on her grave stone in in Union Cemetery, Susquehana County, Pennsylvania (DiPetro 1998). In 1910, Fred and Maude Kinney resided in Brooklyn Township. According to the census they had been married 9 years and were the parents of three children, all of whom were living in 1910. Fred was renting a farm in the township. He and Maud lived in dwelling 19. Fred's brother Lee resided in dwelling 20, and his first cousin Ada Kinney Davidson reside in dwelling 15 (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 61, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 1B, 16 April 1910). Fred and Maud still resided in Brooklyn Township in 1920. Fred was still renting his dairy farm. The Kinneys lived in dwelling 58. Fred's brother Lee lived in dwelling 57 and his first cousin Ida Kinney Davidson lived in dwelling 56. All four of the Kinney children were residents of their parents household (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 64, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 3A, 12 January 1920). By 1930, Fred and Maude had moved to Lathrop Township. They were still renting a farm. None of their children still lived at home. They had did have a boarder in 1930, 14 year old Raymond Johnson, who was attending school (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 18-28, Lathrop Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 1A, 9 April 1930). Fred and Maude are buried in Union Cemetery, Susquehanna County (DiPetro 1998).

Fred Kinney and Maude Ainey had four children born between 1901 and 1911. They had at least 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Total identified descendants equals 25.

CHILDREN OF FREDERICK SQUIRE KINNEY AND MAUDE EDNA AINEY:

1373. (i.) LEAH KINNEY6, was born 8 April 1901 in Pennsylvania, probably in Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County and died February 1977 in Delaware (Scott-Fritzen 1998; Social Security Death Index, o67-20-7342). Leah resided with her parents in Brooklyn Township in 1910 and attended school (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 61, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 1B, 16 April 1910). By 1920, she was 18 years old and was employed as an operator by the telephone company. The 1920 census lists her twice. First, as a resident of her parents home farm in Brooklyn Township (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 64, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 3A, 12 January 1920). The second entry is as a roomer in the home of R.M. and Edith Bushnell at 7 South Main Street in Montrose Borough. Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. This entry also indicates that Leah worked for the telephone company. She may have roomed with the Bushnell's during the time she was employed by the telephone company. The Bushnells were both retired. R.M. was 76 years old and Edith was 67. The Bushnell home appears to have been part of a duplex or perhaps a two apartment house. Their house number was 7 and they were family number 184 in dwelling 173. In number 7 1/2, was family number 185 also in dwelling 173. Family 185 was a single male named George Jonhson. He was a 50 year old native of Hohlenstein, Germany who had come to the United States in 1893 (but was now a naturalized citizen). He worked as a baker in a bake shop (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 86, Montrose Borough, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 7B, 12 January 1920). Leah married after 1920, Charles Flanagan. He was born circa 1901 (Scott-Fritzen 1998). Leah's Social Security card was issued in New York. She resided in New Castle County, Delware at the time of her death in 1977 (Social Security Death Index). Children of Leah Kinney and Charles Flanagan:

1374. (ii.) IRENE KINNEY6, was born 11 August 1902 in Pennsylvania, probably in Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County and died May 1989 (Scott-Fritzen 1998) . Irene resided with her parents in Brooklyn Township in 1910 and attended school (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 61, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 1B, 16 April 1910). She was still a resident of her parents's home in 1920. She was 17 years old and had finished her schooling. She was not employed outside the home (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 64, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 3A, 12 January 1920). Irene left her parents home between 1920 and 1930 and migrated to the city of Binghampton, Broome County, New York. In 1930, she was a boarder in the home of Thurber D. and Marilla S. Liddy (both age 31). The Liddys had an eight year old son named Charles. Irene was employed as a stitcher in a factory which knitted underware (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 4-50, Binghampton City, Broome County, New York, sheet 3A, 4 April 1930). Irene married after 1930, Rexford E. Riffler. He was born 26 October 1892 and died 24 July 1956 (Scott-Fritzen 1998).

1375. (iii.) LAVERNE LESTER KINNEY6, was born 19 November 1903 and died 9 October 1972 in Pennsylvania (Scott-Fritzen 1998: Social Security Death Index). In 1910, Laverne lived at home with his parents in Brooklyn Township in 1910 and attended school (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 61, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 1B, 16 April 1910). He was still a resident of his parents's home in 1920 and he still attended school (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 64, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 3A, 12 January 1920). By 1930, Laverne was living in the household of Edward and Jesse E. (Packer) Flowers. The Flowers lived in Brooklyn Township. Jesse Flower's daughter Ruth Carlye Nash (by her first husband George Gleen Nash also lived in the household. Laverne married Ruth Carlyle Nash, between 1930 and 1932. In 1930, he was a boarder in the Flowers household. The Flowers owned a home valued at $400. They also owned a radio. The family did not live on a farm. Edward Flowers was 47 years old. He was born in Pennsylvania to English immigrant parents. He worked as a drayman in the coal and freight business. His wife Jessie was a 49 year old native of Pennsylvania. She and her first husband George Nash had lived in New York state for awhile. Their daughter Ruth Nash was born in New York on 26 August 1902. In 1930, Ruth was employed as a telephone operator for the phone company. The census states that Laverne Kinney was a barber in 1930. He owned his own shop (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 58-6, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 3A, 10 April 1930). Laverne died in 1972. He resided in Brooklyn, Susquehanna County at the time of his death (Social Security Death Index). Ruth lived until 26 August 1981. They are buried in the "Old Brooklyn Cemetery" in Brooklyn (Scott-Fritzen 1998: Williams n.d.). Children of Laverne and Ruth Kinney:

HAROLD LAVERNE KINNEY7, was born 27 April 1932 and died 15 December 1991 in Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania (Scott-Fritzen 1998; Social Security Death Index, 204-26-3748). He married on 14 November 1953, Perina Pisaneschi, daughter of Peitro and Irene Pisaneschi. She was born 11 December 1931 in Nanticoke, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (Scott-Fritzen 1998). Harold is buried in the "Old Brooklyn Cemetery" in Brooklyn (Scott-Fritzen 1998; Williams n.d.). Children of Harold Kinney and Perina Pisaneschi:

1779. (i.) TERRI LU KINNEY8. She married Michael Bone, son of George and Phyllis Bone (Scott-Fritzen 1998).

1780. (ii.) PAMELA SUE KINNEY8, was born 18 July 1957 and died 23 July 1957. She is buried in the "Old Brooklyn Cemetery" in Brooklyn Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania (Williams n.d.). Scott-Fritzen (1998) gives her place of burial as Westside Cemetery, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania (this may be another name for "Old Brooklyn Cemetery").

1781. (iii.) TIMOTHY HAROLD KINNEY8 (Scott-Fritzen 1998).

1376. (iv.) VERA KINNEY6, was born 1 August 1911 in Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania and died unknown (Scott-Fritzen 1998). In 1920, Vera lived with her parents on a dairy farm in Brooklyn Township and attended school (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 64, Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 3A, 12 January 1920). Vera married at a very young age. She and Guy L. Greenwood were married on 21 April 1925 in Binghampton, Broome County, New York. Guy was the son of James Greenwood and Frances "Frankie" Button. He was born 9 December 1904 in Dimock Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania and died March 1972 (Scott-Fritzen 1998 gives 1991 as his date of death; Social Security Death Index, 161-22-3896). In 1930, Vera and Guy lived with Guy's parents in Dimock Township. Guy worked on his farm's farm as a laborer. James Greenwood was 51, Frankie Button Greenwood was 50. The couple were narives of Pennsylvania. They owned their farm and they owned a radio. In addition to James, Frankie, Guy and Vera, James and Farnkie's 12 year old son Lester also lived with the family. The 1930 census lists two children of Guy and Vera Greenwood, "Betty L. Greenwood" (daughter Vetta, who was 2 and a half) and "Evelyn Greenwood". Evelyn died at the age of two months in March 1929. As the census year covered 1 January 1929 through 1 January 1930, she was listed in the census. The couple's third child, Joyce Greenwood was born 9 March 1930, after the 1 January 1930 cut-off date. Although Joyce was a month old when the census taker came to enumerate the house, she was not included in the census (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 58-9, Dimock Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 5A, 14 April 1930). At the time of Guy's death (1972), the Greenwoods lived in Montrose Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania (Social Security Death Index). Children of Vera Kinney and Guy Greenwood:

1580. (i.) VETTA LOUISE GREENWOOD7, was born 9 July 1927 in Pennsylvania (probably in Dimock Township, Susquehanna Township) and died 2 February 1965 in an automobile accident. She appears on the 1930 census as "Betty L. Greenwood". She was two and a half years old. Vetta lived with her parents on the farm of her Greenwood grandparents in 1930 (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 58-9, Dimock Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 5A, 14 April 1930). She married Peter Arboshaski (Scott-Fritzen 1998). Children of Vetta Greenwood and Peter Arboshaski:

1581. (ii.) EVELYN JEAN GREENWOOD7, was born 15 Janaury 1929 in Pennsylvania (probably in Dimock Township, Susquehanna Township) and died March 1929 probably in Dimock Township (Scott-Fritzen 1998). She is listed on the 1930 census as a two month old infant, although she died a year before the census was enumerated. As Evelyn was born during the offical census year (1 January 1929 through 1 Janaury 1930) she was included on the census. During her very brief life, she resided with her parents and her paternal grandparents on the Greenwood farm in Dimock Township (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 58-9, Dimock Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 5A, 14 April 1930).

1582. (iii.) JOYCE ELAINE GREENWOOD7, was born 9 March 1930 (Scott-Fritzen 1998). Although Joyce was born in 1930, she was not listed on the 1930 census, as her birth did not occur during the offical census year, which extended from 1 January 1929 to 1 January 1930. She was a month old when the census taker ennumerated the Greenwood household (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 58-9, Dimock Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, sheet 5A, 14 April 1930). Joyce married James Beardsley. He was born circa 1930 (Scott-Fritzen 1998). Children of Joyce Greenwood and James Beardsley:
