MINNIETTE MARTIN WILLIAMS6
3087. MINNIETTE "Minnie" MARTIN5 (Philetus Bradley Martin4, Lydia Read3, John Read2, Joseph Read1) was born October 1868 in New Jersey and died unknown. Her name is carved on her mother's stone in Union Brick Cemetery. There is no death date carved on the stone and it is not known if she is actually buried there. In 1870, she lived with her parents and brother on the family farm in Hardwick Township, New Jersey (1870 United States Census, Hardwick Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 148). "Minnie" appears on the 1880 census as a 12 year old school girl living with her parents on their farm in Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County (1880 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 193, Frelinghuysen Township, Warren County, New Jersey, page 319A, 3 June 1880).
Minnie's parents separated sometime between 1880 (when Minnie was 12) and 1900. They may even have been divorced by 1900. In that year, Minniette lived with her mother in the household of her brother Darius Martin. Darius was married and had three sons, his fourth son was born later that year. The Martins were residents of Bloomfield, Essex County, New Jersey in 1900. They lived in a rented house. Darius worked as a cigar maker, and Minnie was employed as a school teacher. According to the census, their mother Sarah Catherine was a widow, but their father was still alive and was probably living in Warren County. Sarah Martin was not employed (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 203, 3rd Ward, Bloomfield Town, Essex County, New Jersey, sheet 1B, 2 June 1900).
Minniette married Charles B. Williams in either 1908 or 1909. Charles was born circa 1871 in New Jersey. In 1910, the couple had just had their first child, a daughter named Margaret. They lived in an apartment at 47 Franklin Street in Midland Park Borough, Bergen County, New Jersey. Minnie's mother, Sarah Catherine Martin had come to Midland Park and moved in with her daughter. Charles Williams was employed as a rubber salesman (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 18, Midland Park Borough, Bergen County, New Jersey, sheet 13B, 27 April 1910). Charles, Minnie, Margaret and Sarah Catherine still lived at 47 Franklin Avenue in Midland Park in 1920. Charles was still a saleman working in the rubber industry (1920 United States Federal Census, Borough of Midland Park, Bergen County, New Jersey, Enumeration District 72, sheet 8A, 6 January 1920).
By 1930, Charles and Minnie had purchased a home on Erie Avenue in Midland Park. The house was valued at $10,000. The family also owned a radio. Charles and Minnie shared their home with their daughter Margaret and with Minnie's mother Sarah Catherine. Charles was still a salesman in the rubber industry. Minnie was working as a private tutor and Margaret was employed as a physical director (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 2-165, Borough of Midland Park, Bergen County, New Jersey, sheet 12B, 14 April 1930). Sarah Catherine Martin died later that year on 3 December.
Minnie Martin and Charles B. William had a daughter who was born in 1909. Total identified descendants equals 1.
