ROLL OF HONOR—KOREAN WAR

The photograph is of the Korean War Veterans Memorial on the mall in Washington D.C. In addition to the 18 statues (see previous link), there is a 164 feet long highly polished California granite wall which features more than 2,500 photographic images of the troops who fought in the war. These include images of nurses, doctors and other support staff. The wall can be be seen in the rear of the photograph behind the statues. In the foreground is the "Pool of Remembrance," which measures 30 feet in diameter and is made of black granite from Canada. (Photograph by Esther Doyle Read, 27 April 2004).


Gerald Francis "Jerry" Doyle
Quartermaster United States Navy, served on the frigate U.S.S. Glendale.
Son of Walter Doyle and Kathleen Doyle.
Husband of Margaret Ann Cunningham.
Also served in World War II.


Laurence "Austin" Doyle
Corporal, United States Army, 19th Infantry Regt 24th Division
Son of Walter Doyle and Kathleen Doyle.
Never married.
Born 28 November 1931, Baltimore, Maryland.
Died 28 October 1950, as a POW in Korea.
His remains are still in an unknown location in Korea, there is a memorial stone for him in Cathedral Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland.
He was awarded the Prisoner of War Medal, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.

Robert Bruce Read
Lieutenant Commander United States Navy, Aviator.
Son of Robert Walter Read and Mildred Stevens Long.
Husband of Giovanina "Jean" Cardillo.
Born 9 November 1924, Glenside, Pennsylvania.
Died 13 July 1991, Pemberton, New Jersey.
Buried Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
Also served in World War II.
