HAINESBURG CEMETERY

Best viewed at screen resolution of 800 by 600.

Hainesburg Cemetery is located on the east end of the village of Hainesburg on New Jersey Route 94 in Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey. This is not a complete transcription of the cemetery. It is instead a selection of the stones within the cemetery, which were collected over the past 21 years by Esther Doyle Read. The dates of the various transcriptions were: 25 June 1983, June 1997, 25 March 2004 and 10 October 2004. The date of the transcript is included with each entry. There are transcriptions for 221 individuals. Most are for people who are buried in the cemetery. A few are for parents, spouses or children of individuals who are actually buried elsewhere. Some of the stones have been photographed, click on the thumbnails to view a larger version of the stone and/or of the entire family plot. Please note that the photographs date from 10 October 2004 forward. Many of the stones were in far better shape when I first saw them in 1983, and were much easier to read then, than are the stones in the photographs taken 20 plus years later. I attribute much of this to modern pollution and acid rain. Relationship data is given for some of the individuals within the cemetery. This data is from work I have done with the Beck and Read family histories since 1983. More information on the Reads and their descendants can be found within the family pages of this website.

The above photograph is an overview of the oldest section of the cemetery, which is located on the west side (view is facing west). Below is an overview of the mid-section of the cemetery and the old section. The mid-section was in use by the early twentieth century. Many of the stones and monuments date to the first four decades of the century (view is facing west).

The final photograph is of the eastern most section of the cemetery, where most of the newer burials are located. The Kittaniny (or Blue) Mountains are in the background (view is facing northeast). All three photographs were taken on 10 October 2004 by Esther Doyle Read.
