MOUNT HERMON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH CEMETERY

Green's Chapel, or Mount Hermon Methodist church yard is located in the village of Mount Hermon on the grounds of the United Methodist Church. This is not a complete transcription of the cemetery. It is instead a selection of the stones within the cemetery, which were collected in June 1983 and 24 March 2004 by Esther Doyle Read. There are 20 stones included in the transcription, representing 45 individuals. A few of the transcriptions include photographs of the grave stones. Allen, Aaron H., born 5 Jan. 1827 - 23 Feb. 1896; Rachel Cook, his wife, born 14 Aug. 1824, died 4 Aug. 1908, At Rest (on same side of stone); Eva Allen Depue, 1855 - 1925 (on reverse side of stone). Aaron and Rachel (Cook) Allen were the parents of Eva (Allen) Depue, Mary C. (Allen) Flumerfelt and Florence B. (Allen) Stinson.

Aten, Henry Floyd, son of Henry & Elizabeth Aten, 11 April 1879 - 9 November 1953 (masonic symbol).

Brands, Hannah (married name Read), see Aaron Read. Her maiden name is not given on the grave stone.

Brugler, James J. Jr., died 27 April 1861, in his 36 Y'R; and his wife Susanna M. Konkle, born 21 Aug. 1821, died 15 Aug. 1919 (side one of obelisk); J. Milton Brugler, born 5 Oct. 1848 died 21 June 1883; Mary E. Decker his wife, 1 Dec. 1848 - 28 Oct. 1907 (side two of obelisk); Emma Brugler, born 2 Mar. 1852, died 25 Nov. 1856 (side three of obelisk). Susanna Konkle Brugler was the daughter of John B. Konkle and Mary Read. J. Milton and Emma Brugler were the children of James and Susanna (Konkle) Brugler. Their daughter Anna Brugler McCain is also buried in the cemetery. J. Milton Brugler's wife, Mary Elizabeth Decker, was the daughter of Isaac Janson Decker and Mary Sutton.

Cook, Sarah M. Read, 1833 - 1881. Sarah Maria (Read) Cook was the daughter of Aaron Read and Hannah Brands. She was the wife of Andrew Teel Cook.

Flumerfelt, Charles, died 3 April 1890, age 74 yrs, 2 mos & 17 days (single stone); Eleanor, wife of Charles Flumerfelt, died 20 Sept 1879, age 55 years, 10 mos, & 3 ds (single stone with wreath on the top). Charles was the son of George Flumerfelt and Margaret Henry. Eleanor Flumerfelt was the daughter of David Read and Anna Middlesworth.

Flumerfelt, John C., 1851 - 1928; Mary C. Allen, his wife, 1849 - 1900; their son, Aaron A., 1884 - 1886 (single stone). Lewis T. Stinson and family on opposite side of the stone. John C. Flumerfelt was the son of Charles and Eleanor (Read) Flumerfelt (who are also buried in the cemetery). Mary C. Allen was the sister of Florence B. (Allen) Stinson (wife of Lewis T. Stinson). She and Florence were the daughters of Aaron and Rachel (Cook) Allen (who are also buried in the cemetery).

M.B. Titman (Marcus B. Titman) was the son of Drusilla Mains by her first husband Jacob B. Titman (who is buried in J.I. Blair/Gravel Hill Cemetery). AR 1861-1865 Flag with grave for Theodore Mains.

McCain, James, 1845 - 1933 (single stone); Sarah A., wife of James McCain, 1846 - 1921 (single stone); Fannie McCain Gibson, 1 August 1902 - 14 August 1984 (single stone). Large family monument on lot with smaller individual stones.

McCain, James Sylvester, 13 Sep. 1871 - 25 May 1914.

McCain, Lewis M., 10 Aug. 1849 - 19 March 1918; Anna M. Brugler, his wife, 15 Feb. 1850 - 28 Feb. 1946; Granddaughter Carrie May, 1903 - 1904; large "M" at top of stone and "McCain at base of stone. Anna Mary Brugler was the daughter of James Brugler, Jr. and Susanna Konkle (who are also buried in the cemetery). Lewis was the son of the son of Jeremiah and Amelia McCain.

Read, Aaron, 11 October 1806 - 28 January 1898; Hannah his wife, 29 March 1814 - 7 December 1888, aged 75 years, poem: Return dear friends and shed/no tears, I must lay here till/Christ appears, then, in his/Glorious image rise to meet/My saviour in the skies (side one of obelisk). Martha Read Decker, 6 August 1843 - 19 December 1873; Kittle Decker, 19 March 1873 - 4 May 1874 (side two of obelisk). Ogden S. Read, 27 July - 14 November 1866; Arthur L. Read, 5 December 1870 - 30 May 1872 (side three of obelisk). Samuel Read, 25 July 1837 - 21 January 1914; Elizabeth Stiles his wife, 1841 - 1935; Clifford Kingsley Read, 30 November 1867 - 5 August 1931 (side four of obelisk). Aaron Read was the son of Samuel Read and Maria H. Freese. His wife Hannah, was the daughter of David Brands and Sarah Angle. Three of Aaron and Hannah's four children are buried in Mount Hermon. They are Samuel C. Read, Martha Read Decker and Sarah Maria Read Cook. Their daughter Catherine Read Kirkhuff is buried in Ramseyburg Cemetery. Samuel and Martha's names are inscribed on the Aaron Read monument. Samuel and Elizabeth (Stiles) Read's children are also buried in the Read lot. They were: Ogden S., Arthur L. and Clifford Kingsley Read. Martha Read was married to Isaac Dayton Decker, the son of Isaac Jansen Decker and Mary Sutton (his sister Mary Elizabeth was married to J. Milton Brugler (see above)). Martha and Kittle are buried in the Read plot.

Read, Ogden Stiles, son of Samuel & P.E. Read, died 14 November 1866, aged 3 months & 13 days (original stone next to Read Monument).

Read, Arthur L., see Aaron Read.

Read, Clifford Kingsley, see Aaron Read.

Read, Eleanor (married name Flumerfelt), see Charles Flumerfelt. Her maiden name is not given on the grave stone.

Read, John C., 1849 - 1934; Cornelia, his wife 1857 - 1921; Sadie, daughter, 1884 - 1945. John C. Read was a son of Samuel D. Read (brother of Aaron) and Abigail Curliss. Cornelia A. "Nelly" Blaine was the daughter of Amos and Jane Blaine.
