Title: "Another Ending" (Last Knight Spoiler) By: Arletta Asbury g4akl@charm.net This is my second attempt at Fanfic, so please, remember that and try to be kind. It was inspired by my hatred of the ending of "Last Knight". I hate it, hate it, hate it! DISCLAIMER: The characters of Nick, Natalie, LaCroix, etc. are characters of the Forever Knight show and as such are the property of TPTB. They are not mine I am just borrowing them for a little while. ******************************************************************** "Damn you, Nicholas." Lacroix stepped forward toward his son then hoisted the stake with one smooth motion. And paused. -- Lacroix could now hear Natalie's heart still beating very strongly. "It is not too late. We could take her to a hospital before leaving." Lacroix tried again. Nicholas shook his head, tears still in his eyes. * * * Natalie awoke in a hospital bed. She was groggy and did not fully realize what had happened to her. She lay there and tried to remember but flashes of images she had never seen before clouded her mind. Eventually, she looked up to see an IV transfusion and tubing leading into her left arm and felt with her right hand a small neat bandage at her throat. Closing her eyes, she shook her head as realization finally dawned. * * * Later someone from the hospital staff approached, with a clipboard in her hand. "Could you fill this out?" Natalie shook her head. Seating herself on the chair beside Natalie's bed, she said. "If you'll just answer my questions, I'll fill it out for you." Natalie nodded. She proceeded to read the admissions form and ask Natalie for each item of information until she reached the next of kin question. Natalie's eyes clouded, rapidly filled with tears, and she began weeping outright. Unsure what to do she patted Natalie's hand and murmered "There, there." After a bit she tried again "Do you have anyone that I could list here. How about a friend or co-worker?" Finally Natalie whispered the name of one of the morgue technicians that had always been especially friendly to her. "That's all the questions now. I hope you'll be feeling better soon." she smiled at Natalie, then standing, she quietly left the room. Natalie closed her eyes and willed herself to stop crying. Eventually, she fell asleep. * * * Natalie awoke at some noise in the hallway. "She's in here?" a voice asked. Receiving confirmation, a co-worker of hers entered the room and with an encouraging smile sat down. At first Natalie didn't understand, then remembered she had listed her as next of kin and realized the hospital must have notified her. She tried to be cheerful and didn't question Natalie about the events that led to the hospital. Eventually the conversation got around to current office gossip. "Did you hear about Detective Vetter? Her body is missing from this very same hospital." Natalie blinked. "Her father is fit to be tied. He's threatening to sue everyone for incompetence!" Realizing that that might not be the best subject for someone actually *in* that hospital, she quickly changed the topic. "And Captain Reese is in the middle of an IA investigation. It seems Detective Knight is missing and without him to testify the investigation is focusing on Reese himself." Natalie burst into tears. She remembered too late, the rumors she had heard about Natalie and Detective Knight. She wanted to change to subject again but failed. It seemed all the best office gossip hit too close to Natalie. So reluctantly she rose to leave. Natalie was still crying. "Call me later." she offered. She saw Natalie nod her head in reply and then she fled. * * * The day before she was to be released from the hospital, a box arrived. Natalie opened it and discovered that it contained a dozen long stemmed red roses. She'd had only a few call and visits during her stay, so far, and she wondered who had sent it. Searching she found the card enclosed and gasped as she read it: a ticket awaits you at the air Canada counter of the airport L The End ************************************************************** Send any comments to: g4akl@charm.net Nick & Nat Packer, Light Cousin
