WAR: LN, LC and Divia (1/1) by Arletta Asbury, Cousin Shelley, and Cousin Robi Shelley removed the video cassette from the player, before asking, 'Are you sure he'll like the book?" "Why not? I mean the actors thought it was a hoot," Arletta replied. "Just because some actors liked it doesn't mean that Lacroix will," Shelley persisted. "What's the harm, if he doesn't?" Robi asked. Nick, who was passed out on the floor, made no comment. * * * A few moments later Shelley entered the room where Lacroix was reading. "Ah, excuse me," Shelley began rather hesitantly. He looked up from his newspaper before saying, "What is it?" "I thought you might like this," she handed him a book. "Thank-You," he said rather puzzled. He glanced down at the cover and wondered, 'why does she think I would want a children's book?' "You're welcome," Shelley replied before walking away. Divia, who had been watching this exchange from the corner, made a quick decision. She walked over to Lacroix and said, "I overheard Robi and Shelly talking earlier about giving you that book. Father, would you read to me from it? " Divia said in a sugary sweet, pleading tone of voice. Lacroix was a little surprised at this request but he replied, "I never had the chance to read to you when you were a little girl. I would be very happy to do it now." He began, "Green Eggs and Ham by Doctor Seuss .........." A few minutes later he read, "The end," and closed the book. Divia was sitting next to him on the couch. She smiled up at him and said, "Thank-You." Then she grabbed the book from his hands, jumped to her feet, and raced out the door shouting, "Gotcha that time, Father!" Lacroix just stared after her retreating figure.
