a clean cut

 

steel

cold

smooth

sharp/

a clean cut/

without jagged edges

no signs of violence/

a clean cut

            no jagged edges

            no evidence of ripping and tearing/

                        of struggle

                        the heat or rage

                        the heat of power

            of love turned to hatred/

            a cousin/hybrid emotion

a clean cut

the unexpected result

slow to heal

            so few edges to mend

and oh/

                        the pain
