Manned Space Exploration in a Sustainable World

When we reach a sustainable Earth we will face a problem we can only solve in space. In every society there are always a few people who feel compelled to move out. There will be little opportunity for them on a sustainable Earth. Beyond this small number, there is a majority of people who love to follow the exploits of the explorers. Having an outlet for this natural human thrust is critical to the long-term health of the society.

There are many great examples of this effect in history including: Polynesian, the American West, Australia and New Zealand, as well as, Russian Siberia.

Where can they go in a sustainable world?

The answer is obviously off planet. The Moon, Mars, and the Earth-crossing asteroids await. A sustainable Earth is the platform for a golden age of manned-space exploration.

Education:

This topic has great possibility for comparison of the history of peoples who moved out into the unknown with the possibilities for such movements today.
