Itinerary We are on the road from 8 am to 6 pm. Our itinerary is planned down to the quarter-hour, though we leave the window open to unexpected opportunities. In Poland we will see the terrain just as it was, except near some of the larger towns like Pultusk. A British researcher has recently uncovered burial places on the battlefield of Eylau, which shows that they have been left alone until now.
August 21st Day 1 Home City/Warsaw Someone from the tour will meet you at the airport or the train station and escort you to our hotel in Warsaw. (Just let us know your arrival time and place as your plans become finalized.) Balance of the day at leisure. At your option you can time your arrival for the following day:
August 22nd Day 2 Home City/Warszawa We will visit several museums of interest in Warsaw: National Museum and Polish Army Museum; Warsaw Historical Museum; Museums in the Royal Palace, Lazienki, and Wilanow. Napoleon entered Warsaw at 3 a.m. on December 18th, 1806 and stayed at the palace of Augustus on the Place de Saxe.
August 23rd Day 3 Okunin/Czarnowo/Ciechanow/Golymin Morand's division began the crossing on the 19th of December by taking the island opposite Okunin. III Corps crossed in force on the 23rd, driving the Russians from Czarnowo. Augereau and Soult crossed the Ukra further upstream on the 24th, and converged on Golymin. Lannes's Corps, meanwhile, crossed behind Davout and headed for Pultusk. 64 miles.
August 24th Day 4 Pultusk/Makow/Ostroleka The double-battle of Golymin and Pultusk took place on the 25th. At Pultusk, Lannes Corps (supported by a single division of Davout's) fought Bennigsen at odds of 1:2. Despite his superiority, Bennigsen withdrew through Makow to Ostroleka. 60 mi.
August 25th Day 5 Niedenburg (Nidzica)/Allenstein (Olsztyn)/Jonkowo After a month's rest, the French took the field to oppose Bennigsen's January offensive, and almost caught his army in the flank. Bennigsen withdrew just in time to the village of Jonkowo. 80 mi.
August 26th Day 6 Mohrungen (Morag)/Guttstadt (Dobre)/Eylau (Bagrationovsk) General Bennigsen was forced to retire from position to position from the 4th to the 7th of February, and finally determined to fight a battle at Eylau on the 8th. 72 mi.
August 27th Day 7 Heilsberg (Lidzbark Warminski)/Bartenstein (Bartoszyce)/ Friedland (Pravdinsk) General Bennigsen's second offensive began on June 5th. He bloodied Soult's Corps at Heilsberg, but had to withdraw to cover Königsberg. His army was caught in the act of crossing the Alle River for the march on the Prussian stronghold on the 14th of June. 58 mi.
August 28th Day 8 Tilsit (Sovetsk)/Gdansk Napoleon met the Tsar on a raft on the River Niemen at Tilsit. The negotiations continued for several days. At the end, Napoleon's power was confirmed, and the Tsar was his new alliance partner. 210 mi.
August 29th Day 9 Gdansk/Bydgoszcz/Torun/Warszawa A major siege took place at Danzig (Gdansk) through the winter and spring months of 1807. Bromberg and Thorn were important bases on the Line of Communciations. 250 mi. (Total mileage = 800)
