About Us
Reference Point Software originated in 1990 from developer David Plaut. While working on his Masters degree in Nursing Informatics at the University of Maryland, he found himself frustrated by the tedious nature of formatting biographies and references for every document he was required to write in APA style. His frustration inspired him to create some preliminary code that would reduce the time and effort needed to customize each paper's format. The concept caught on, friends wanted in on it, and David continued to hone and develop his program.
That simple program has since evolved into Reference Point Software: a complete suite of formatting template products. Anyone required to submit papers in either APA (American Psychological Association) or MLA (Modern Language Association) style can benefit from the time-saving and accuracy-improving features of Reference Point Software.
With a focus on simplicity, accuracy and friendly customer service, Reference Point Software has grown by word of mouth, as thousands of students and instructors have found it to be the easiest way to ensure that their work is formatted correctly. From their corporate offices outside of Baltimore, Maryland, David Plaut and his wife, Kate, and all of the sales & support techs remain actively involved in software development and technical support for the templates.
