Downloading our software

After you order a Reference Point Software template, follow these steps to download your software and start using it right away.


  1. After ordering the software from our secure on-line store you will receive a receipt in your internet browser. On that receipt will be a download button for each item that you purchased that is downloadable.
  2. Click on the download button and follow your browser's instructions for saving downloads to your hard disk. You can rename the downloaded file if you like but if you have a PC you must leave the last 4 characters as ".exe".
  3. If your browser asks you to get a plug-in just click the Save File button. You don't need any plug-ins to download our software.
  4. Write down the name of the file that you save to your hard disk so that you can find it later.
You will also receive an email receipt with a link to your order. Save this email receipt. This link allows you to download product updates or reinstall your software at any time. Do not allow anyone else to use this link as it will display confidential information about your credit card order. Please be sure to type in your email address correctly when ordering or you will not receive this email receipt.

If your download fails or you need to redownload don't panic. You have several options:

  • Click on the link in your email receipt (or copy the link and paste it into your browser) to redownload at any time. Read the instructions for redownloading.
  • Email us about the problem and we can email your purchase directly to you and or email you your order ID number.
  • If all else fails, just order again and type in a comment explaining your problem. We will not bill you twice.
Installing our downloaded software

    Win 95 or higher users:
  1. After downloading your purchase click on Start, Find, Files and Folders.
  2. Type the file name that you just downloaded (for example setup018) in the box called "Named". Your screen should look something like this:

  4. Click Find Now.
  5. When the file is found double click on it to install it.
    Win 3.0 - 3.11:
  1. After downloading your purchase click on File Manager.
  2. Navigate to the file you just downloaded or Click File, Search.
  3. For the name of the file to search for type in the file name that you just downloaded (for example setup010).
  4. Click OK.
  5. When the file is found double click on it to install it.
    Mac Users:
  1. After downloading your purchase you will need Stuffit Expander (a free program) to expand the installer. On many Macs this may already be installed and the downloaded program might expand automatically. If it does not expand automatically try double clicking on it.
  2. After expanding the downloaded file just double click on the actual installer which will be named something like "APAInstaller".
How to Redownload our Software

There are two methods to redownloading. With either method you will need to know your order number which was in your e-mail receipt. If you do not know your order number please contact us and tell us the name and address on the original order.
    Redownloading: Method 1
  1. Click on the download link in your email receipt.
  2. Enter the credit card number that you used to order. This is used to identify you. You will not be charged for redownloading.
    Redownloading: Method 2
  1. Visit this page to redownload the software.
  2. You will need the e-mail address on your original order and your order number.
  3. This method is easier but will not be available until at least the next business day after you place your order.
  4. If you have a Mac you will need to use Safari for this method. Search Apple's web site for that if you don't know what it is.
Product Updates

Updates (enhancements to a product that you've already purchased on-line) can be downloaded at any time. Simply click Start, Programs, APA Style, Online Updates.

If you don't have that menu choice use the order ID number from your e-mail receipt and follow the instructions above for redownloading.

Upgrades

There is a charge for upgrades (going from one version of our product to another, e.g. Word 97 to Word 2000, or a change in the version of the publication manual). Please contact us directly if you need to upgrade.
