Former Home of Mike's Baby Name Site
This is the former location for the most popular baby names based on Social Security card applications. This same information can now be found on the Social Security web site at www.ssa.gov/OACT/NOTES/note139/note139.html.
In April 2000 I left Social Security to pursue my other interests, primarily my web site devoted to the mathematical analysis of casino gambling, www.thewizardofodds.com. The agency still maintains updates of the lists. The actuary who took over the job does not like requests for interviews or other data, so please don't bother him.
For other baby name sites may I recommend the following.
- The Baby Center is an
online guide to pregnancy, labor, parenting, and baby names. A great deal of information is available and very professionally done. They group the Social Security lists by spelling variation (for examle combining Ann and Anne), which I think is appropriate.
- For anything else you want to know about baby names I recommend babynames.com. They have meanings to numerous names, an advice column, pictures, a bulletin board, commercial resources, and links to other pages on the subject of babies.
-
The New Baby Name Index. Big list of baby names from around the world, including my lists.
- The BabyZone
for the lighter side of pregnancy.
- Eponym. Ideas and help in choosing a baby name.
- The web page of C.J.
has my full grouped lists for 1997,
male and
female.
- If you are interested in Irish names
Fiona Hyland has a good page on the subject.
- Search French Baby Names.
- Search Yahoo
for baby name pages.
